Microsoft has released the first build of Windows 10 for phones

Microsoft said that the first release of Windows 10 for phones would arrive in February and today is that lucky day. You can now download the OS if you have the right hardware and are willing to put up with a few bugs for the ability to try out the company's next generation phone OS.

To get started downloading the OS, hit the link below to grab the Windows Insider App that will give you access to the bits needed to download Windows 10 for phones.

While Microsoft's mobile strategy is still coming together and after many years of trying to court developers has resulted in little success, the company is hoping its universal apps will finally bring quality content to its stores.

As rumored, not every device will be able to run the Windows Phone 10 technical preview which will surely disappoint quite a few users who wanted to try out the pre-release OS. The following devices are eligible for this round of the technical preview for Windows 10 for Phones:

  • Lumia 630
  • Lumia 635
  • Lumia 636
  • Lumia 638
  • Lumia 730
  • Lumia 830

As with any preview software, take caution before you install this OS on your phone. Seeing as it is pre-release, there are likely bugs that could impact your daily use; if you are on the fence about installing the OS, it is best to wait until others comment on if the build is stable before proceeding.
