Microsoft launches Office Mobile 2010 for WinMo 6.5

Microsoft has launched Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 today.

The release co-incides with today's Office 2010 launch. The new Office suite is made for Windows Mobile 6.5. A different version of Office Mobile will ship with Windows Phone 7 later this year. Currently live, the Office Mobile 2010 website features a quick video about the software, as well as a list of features available. To download the software (assuming you're running a phone with Windows Mobile), you can search for "Office Mobile 2010" in the Windows Marketplace.

Here are the highlighted features:

  • Use gestures, such as clicks, drags, and taps to navigate around
  • SharePoint Workspace Mobile, allowing you to take your work wherever you go
  • PowerPoint Mobile's Presentation Companion, allowing you to use an external monitor to display slides, controlling them from the phone
  • Ability to save files back to SharePoint Server, or email them to a contact
  • Support for bullets, numbering, and font styles in Word and OneNote Mobile
  • Cell formatting options in Excel Mobile
  • Support for rich graphics, including SmartArt graphics
  • OneNote Mobile
  • Copy and paste across applications

MS better watch out!.There is a new kid on the presentation block and its a Power Point Killer! Adobe Presentation is the app they are amped up! An amazing app. PPT on steroids that will keep your audience focused... Check Acrobat.com-free for the basics. 2.5-D capability for cool viewing. It breaths life into your words. Great animation and even better with pix. This app has got serious game. Go down and sin, no more Microsoft-scat! The swarez are looking poky on round 14-2010.

OneNote Mobile 2010 is a joke. It seems comparing to the 2007, they simply updated the application icon and that's it. The mobile version cannot even read OneNote 2010 notebooks (the one created in the 2010 file format).

And where is promised support for syncing of password protected notebooks?

I hope compatibility with the desktop versions of Office files has been improved... Previously this was a serious issue and limited the usefulness of Office Mobile...

GUI isn't that huge a deal for me, though I am looking forward to seeing what they do for the Windows Phone 7 version...

I keep getting an error saying "There was a problem processing payment. Please try again later".. it is listed as free!?!?!
It's only free if you already have a previous version of Office Mobile.

Doesn't matter how it looks, at least they released it for free on 6.5. They could've just easily said Office Mobile 2010 only on WP7 or maybe charged for it on 6.5 ...

Just because it's free doesn't mean its got to look like something from about 15 years ago.

It's not worth the added time/cost to redo the UI for a old platform. This is why, as the post notes, the version with WP7 will be different and have a new UI etc. MS has moved on, as far as office mobile for WM6.5 goes, they'll add some new features/support but not any drastic UI changes. Hell, this will probably be the last version WM6.5 gets I bet.

Exactly. Functionality isn't good enough for people these days.

FUGLY.

They're not going to take the time to redo the UI for older WM6.5 apps. I'd rather they leave the UI candy for the WP7 versions.

Office 2010 for WP7 will be very useful without cut/paste....

Yes, looks really bad. i think Microsoft is moving backwards with the Windows phone 7 ugly black interface...

And without external storage (SD cards). And... you get the idea.

Yeah. Hopefully they get that into the final. They did say a while ago that it WAS a work item... But they weren't guaranteeing it for launch... Stupid think to not get in IMO...
