Microsoft 'Metro Mouse' leaks out

Microsoft is known to produce some quality hardware and its peripherals are usually of a high quality. But sometimes a product leaks out and you are left scratching your head as to what Microsoft could possibly be thinking. The Vista.ru has uncovered some convincing Microsoft material that details an upcoming addition to the bluetrack line of mice.

The mouse, dubbed 'Metro Mouse', is exactly that; a metro(sexual?) inspired device that will supposedly come in at the basement price of $20.00(USD). Other than using Microsoft's bluetrack technology and being a corded mouse, little else is known, but the device does not appear to be a revolution by any means.

Interestingly, the cord appears to come out of the device at an angle rather that directly out the top as per the standard among corded mice. Look for Microsoft to debut this mouse in the near future and don't be too surprised if it comes in a variety of color options.

At USD20 (highly likely can go lower too), that's the cheapest BlueTrack mouse you can ever get. I wonder if it goes all the way to 4000dpi?

So it has to be revolutionary for anyone to want it? It's a different take on the budget mouse, get over it.

I don't see the problem with it, besides that it's pink. In other colours I don't see the problem. And the cord on the side isn't a bad thing...
I really don't see why everyone thinks it's so ugly.

Anyone else realize that this mouse looks really damn similar to the Apple mouse?
In that it's white, shiny and looks like a mouse?

Am I the only who didn't hate it that much? Seriously, bring out some color choices and it is the best looking mouse in that price range...

Oh please ppl, once its out i am sure those whining over here will have it on their desks first.

Imagine if the black was used instead of pink, it would look utterly different.
Its not bad at all.

It looks a bit Applesque, but aside from that, I don't see anything too horrible about it. It's a cheap, wired mouse with a nice tracking technology and bright colors.

I think I'm unlucky because all three Microsoft hardware I own ended up sucking or dieing (Microsoft Mini Explorer -- Stupid thing has an ultra sensitive bright blue LED which is a waste of battery as mine seemed to have always stayed on; some $45 Microsoft mouse doesn't go into sleep, thus eating up my battery very quickly; XBOX 360 Halo Edition -- RROD). So I certainly don't think about quality when I think of Microsoft and hardware.

It didn't have an off switch? Anyways the blue LED is sensitive for a reason. It works well on surfaces that most other mice would never work on. For me a bed is a good spot. Could never get a mouse to work on a bed until I got one with bluetrack. I'm not being a fanboy to Microsoft but this is one of those instances where they got something right.

They made it

It should be blueTRACK. That "article" is full of typos.

That's what I was wondering as well. If it's the color, I highly doubt pink will be the only color this comes in. Apart from that, it seems completely nondescript.

is this the new touchpad-like buttonless mouse? because i dont see the a seperation line between the left and right buttons.

I wonder if it is more a touch sensitive interface like you see on TV and Monitor bezels.

Is it me or Microsoft has stopped making ergonomic mouses? What about a replacement for my Explorer Mouse?

Microsoft has never made ergonomic mouses. They make ergonomic mice though and still do.

Nope, still MICE for computers. Look online and all the online stores say mice. Mouses is not correct.

Really? here in Australia we call them mouses. Ah well

The current explorer mouse (the wireless bluetrack one) is pretty ergonomic. The different surface materials mask the contours a bit, but once you have it in hand it feels great.

We do? Since when? I've never heard anyone here say mouses.

Seriously, what are they doing.
And IF you decide to release a mouse like this, why market it with pink colours, jesus ...

The site and illustrations does look a bit fakeish to me but we've seen some creations like this before, like the mobile phone

You might not be the target market?

Well, this certainly isn't for me, but I can see this being popular among the teen crowd (Girls more than anything)... And at the price you can't really beat that... I dunno. Definitely not for everyone, but I do think it has a market.

briangw said,
heh, could you imagine that cord getting in the way of those that use mice left handed?

That's a good point. The cord doesn't make sense to me...

You are assuming there is no left handed version. I mean, it's not like every mouse is for both handers.

It says it right in the screenshot of the product page: "Comfort in Either Hand". I assume that means one version for both lefties and righties.

Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the picture shows a symmetrical mouse

I can't really see anything good about this at all, including the cord on an angle... what the crap is that...

well the fashion ladies will enjoy the cord on an agle

If you have the mouse on the right side of the laptop (most users), it's coming out at a reasonable angle.

But the mouse is designed to be used in either hand (which means on either side of the computer).

Looks aside, and it doesn't look that nice, it does have some place in the market.

Some consumers are always looking for fun gadgets, and this is a well priced one for the young teen generation that still makes The Sims one of the best selling games every week.

Otherwise, it's just another option for people, and that is always good.

Well, suicide and murder are options too, and those aren't good in any way . This mouse makes me wanna kill those who approved it thoug.

The guy you wish you was said,

Please tell me its because its Pink? i would like one if it was black & blue =)

pink is not that bad....i just think the pic quality is too bad.....and you never know a gadget unless it is there in your hands i guess..... on its plus side - it looks minimal by design....

No more than Apple magic mouse...

Are you kidding me? The Magic Moue has a nice stylish aluminum bottom rather than that pink plastic crap. But then again for $20 people shouldn't complain too much.
