Microsoft Outlook.com and Hotmail down for some users [Update]

There are reports coming in from some users of Microsoft's online email service Outlook.com are unable to sign onto their email accounts at the monent. This situation began earlier this morning. Neowin readers have been posing their reports on the signup issues on our forums. However, this problem does not appear to be affecting all Outlook.com users at the moment.

One Neowin member, alwaysonacoffeebreak, states in our forums, "Well it did load for me for a second and then tried to fetch emails but it kept on trying so I refreshed the page and now I'm stuck on the login page again hah."

Other users have taken to Twitter to talk about the outage. One users posted up the following message:

The issues are also affecting some users who are signing up with their Hotmail.com account. Microsoft recently announced that Outlook.com was out of beta and that Hotmail.com users will start to transition into the new Outlook.com user interface over the coming months.

We have emailed Microsoft to find out what's happening with Outlook.com today and will update this post when the current situation changes.

Update: Microsoft has sent the following statement to Neowin:

Microsoft is investigating an issue affecting a small number of users' access to Hotmail and Outlook.com, and we are working to restore full access to the service as quickly as possible. For the latest information, we encourage users to visit the Hotmail and Outlook.com status page (https://status.live.com/).

Hasn't been working for me since yesterday. It's been pretty much on and off since then, but the times it's on it isn't actually functioning like it should. I have pretty much been using Gmail and Outlook side by side and have never encountered this before with Gmail. I am disappointed, Microsoft.

Mine's still working but that doesn't mean I have to like it; I want my old Hotmail Live back!

Do any software companies ever talk to actual users before they release products??

Guys... when it is down, does it show any url leading your inbox?
Using my former Microsoft knowledge, the address pinpoints the location of datacenter.
For example. Bay = San Francisco Bay datacenter.. and SN = San Antonio Data Center....
I am sure there are more data centers around the world (I don't work at MS anymore), but it would be interesting to know.
As far as I can tell, my inbox is working fine at San Antonio.

If this is true I guess it was Dublin that was done since almost everyone who had problems were stuck on dub002.live.com

Test for the mass transition to outlook?

Regardless, I'm done with Microsoft's e-mail once they force us over to outlook. Their new unified look is terrible, just like Google's, except worse. I barely use my hotmail accounts anyway; mainly there for legacy reasons. Once the shutdown happens with MSN/WLM, that's about it. Goodbye my decade old e-mail account.

Still not working for me. Office Outlook doesn't bring in the emails nor does my WP.

Outlook page:

"The connection has timed out
The server at dub002.mail.live.com is taking too long to respond"

I'm having the same Problem. Outlook.com does not work, but I can Access my account via Thunderbird and the Windows 8 E-Mail app.

I just tested now and one outlook account works and on hotmail does not. Only works through pop for me, no web interface. This morning neither of them worked, including special domain ones like @neowinian.net
