Microsoft posts 'Walking Dead' mid-season premiere on Xbox Live before it airs

AMC's popular zombie drama "The Walking Dead" is scheduled to air its mid-season premiere on Sunday, but some viewers have already seen the episode thanks to an accidental leak by Microsoft.

News of the leak first surfaced on Reddit, where a post said the episode was made available for free on Xbox Live. The episode was pulled by Microsoft shortly after the leak, and it doesn't appear to have made its way to any file-sharing websites or services. According to Deadline, AMC confirmed the leak but declined any further comment. The leak may cause tension between Microsoft and AMC, as a cross-promotion initiative saw Microsoft release a series of commercials for Windows that tied into the show while AMC released a Windows 8 app that syncs with the TV show.

As pointed out by Fansided, this isn't the first time a well-known technology company has accidentally leaked a premiere of "The Walking Dead" – Google accidentally posted the first episode of the current season last year before it aired on TV. That posting was also quickly removed, similar to today's leak.

"The Walking Dead" is scheduled to make its return from a winter break on AMC on Sunday at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Somebody just got fired but in his defense Xbox Video is so low radar they may get away with it.

Don't kid yourself. This "leak" was intentional, the goal being to act as a reminder that the show's back on. Free promotion on all news sites that care to mention it.

Nobody tell me it didn't work.

TWD fans already have reminders for today on their DVRs, calendars, etched on their hands, etc. I don't think they needed to leak it onto Xbox Video to remind anybody.

I'd consider myself to be a fan. Even though I've been introduced to the show through downloads, I've felt it was worth my support and bought every season they've produced so far. *I* forgot it was back on today. By getting it talked about, they also reminded the casual viewers on top of people like myself who don't live by reminders.

Had this occurred a month ago, I might agree it was a real leak. But it "leaked" just one day before the actual air date, and the reports of its leak are being made *on* the air date. Who's gonna bother tracking down the leaked version?

No, they've completely achieved their goal.
