Microsoft sells 130,000 Xbox 360 units in April in the US

Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console once again was the number one best-selling console in the US in April 2013, but year-on-year sales of the hardware have taken a nose dive. Today, the company announced that, according to numbers supplied by the NPD Group, the console sold 130,000 units, making this the 28th straight month that the Xbox 360 outsold its competitors.

However, April 2013's numbers were well below those of April 2012, when Microsoft announced that it sold 236,000 units of the Xbox 360. This seems to indicate that the console, which is now over seven years old, is finally reaching the end of its life, as Microsoft prepares to officially announce the next version of the Xbox on Tuesday.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that retail sales for the entire game industry in the US took a massive hit in April, with total revenues (hardware, software and accessories) of just $495.2 million, down a whopping 25 percent from the same period a year ago. Injustice: Gods Among Us, the DC Comics-based super hero fighting game from Warner Bros Interactive, was the best selling game in the US in April, followed by Dead Island: Riptide, BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Defiance.

I'd actually like to replace my older white model system.... The thing gets so loud when playing now. I would buy a slim but I refuse to pay more then $100 for a system at this point.

I am one, and I know about the new Xbox. Problem is, it could be the end of the year or early next year for the release. On top of that, how many early adopters will be plagued with problems? I posted above as to why I bought a new one but in case you missed it. My old one died, I'm heavily invested in games, and did not want to wait for a new one. It was just torture staring at my games.

Also, wasnt it rumored that the next XBOX wont play 360 games? Unless its been debunked.

And yes for those looking here...I know it is currently a rumor.

In fact, i wish to buy a xbox360 but i will want until MS will launch the new console. Why?, because the price will drop to the bottom.

Yeah. Can't believe the cables (play and charge kit) and the 360 batteries aren't that good.

The original Zune is sexy in its own way. Same goes for the first Xbox, it was a gorgeous piece of hardware when it was released.

I am one of those consumers. I was waiting until the next Xbox but couldn't hold out. I never buy used electronics and Best Buy had them for $249.

250GB model, 2 games, and a month of Xbox live. Don't need the games and I'm topped up until June 2014 on the Xbox live.

Nice, I figured it would be the 4gb model.

It was a 2 day sale, Friday-Saturday, they had 2 weeks ago. My old Xbox went to heaven and I had to stare at all my games everyday. Torture!

haha, yea. My original xbox died after 6yrs so I bought the slime a couple years ago. Works great. 250 is a good deal since I believe they normally run around 400. At least they did when they came out.

Haha was just going to say how many of those sales were people buying to replace a system that crapped out on them vs New buyers I'd like to see those numbers

Gaming console industry down .. windows 8 to blame !
Actually, Metro works on the Xbox. It just doesn't work on many desktops. I actually like the Surface, Windows Phone, and Xbox UI.

I think eventually they will work it out for the desktop, but currently it just isn't viable as it doesn't bring the best of touch and mouse, but rather just touch. This is exactly why windows phone, surface and xbox feel so connected to the user - its more natural for that environment.

Finally someone who is open minded and can see clearly.

I don't think that interface will ever work well with a mouse. It relies on giant UI elements to look pretty.

That's why I only use the start screen as a program launcher on my desktop. I love Windows 8 even though I don't use the Modern UI on my desktop. I don't see what the huge fuss is.

Same but its not all about "giant UI elements", Blue will be bringing mini icons which can basically let you turn your start screen into a sea of taskbar sized quick launchers.

You can already fit a LOT more on the start screen than the start menu but people complain about it. I don't think the amount of things on it is what they're complaining about, they just don't like that it's changed from a small menu to being full screen.
