Microsoft sells 960K Xbox 360s in one week, loves Black Friday

Even though the Xbox 360 is now going into its seventh year, Microsoft managed to sell 960,000 units during the week of Black Friday. The important figure is that they sold 960K units, not shipped, which means that this is the biggest one week of sales ever for the platform; Microsoft also sold 750K Kinects as well, this includes bundled and stand alone products. Microsoft also said that they moved 800,000 of the units in a single 24 hour period.

The Xbox 360 is about to receive an update on December 6 that will not only bring a new UI but also more features to the platform. By adding nearly a million new users, Microsoft is solidifying its place atop the US sales chart with 11 months straight leading the pack. Microsoft fully expects that at the end of the year, the Xbox 360 will remain the number one console in the US.

This news reiterates that the Xbox platform is still a viable option and that consumers are not waiting for the next generation of consoles to arrive. Even as the Xbox 360 grows old, it still has a few tricks up its sleeve and it's obvious that consumers are still lusting for the platform.

I would say the average price of the units sold was probably $250. So that means in 24 hours they sold $200,000,000 worth of xbox's.

The Wii sold 500K units in ONE DAY alone, this Black Friday. Hmmm I wonder why THAT didn't get a headline? The Wii still selling that much is a lot more impressive when considering that the successor to Wii has been officially announced and expected to be arrive soon!

The XBOX is still within a couple million of total PS3 sales, they're both still far from touching the Wii and DS, and the 3DS has been outselling everything for the past few weeks. Nothing to see here people, move along

I finally picked one up myself. The holiday bundle they (Microsoft Store, amongst others) were selling on Black Friday was a great deal!

The more Kinects out there the better. That user data will be a goldmine. Microsoft's body tracking and both of their speech platforms are going to start receiving masses amounts of data. The natural user interface arena is going to be hot!

If Apple sold this many they'd throw press releases to every network in the world screaming how great they are, MS does it and its like nothing happened

Hm... I seem to recall some wingnut telling me just this afternoon that the Kinect was struggling now... Interesting news indeed. Congrats to Microsoft.

I bought a 250GB Holiday Bundle Xbox 360 for $199 and a PS3 160GB Bundle for $199. I couldn't pass up those deals.

I had to do the same thing, except i upgraded my XBox with the 4GB Slim XBox plus Kinect for 150. I really should feel bad about spending 350 on toys for myself, but I don't.

I know in my part of Atlanta, on Saturday, literally every single last store in the city that I could find was sold out of Xbox 360s. I found like one Wii....and some ****** got it before i did -_- because it could still play GC games. When I checked the stores yesterday they apparently received an insane amount of Xbox 360s to restock their store shelves but still no Wiis to be found, except at Gamestop I should say.

750,000 Kinects - Neowin told me the other day that Kinect was failing in favor of PS Move.

BTW, why are all of Neowin's dates now "tomorrow"?

They moved their operations to China, so the time zones over there are in the future.

Me and my friend split an xbox + kinect bundle. He paid $100 for an xbox, I paid $100 for a kinect. We both went home happy (somehow I feel like he got the better deal though )

Yep, he easily got better deal as $100 for a new slim XBox360 is pretty damn hard to complain

Sweet, that just means more noobs on call of duty and halo.

I like this. I don't have as much time to play video games as I used to so I'm not as good at them anymore. Lots of noobs makes it more fun.
