Microsoft sends Windows XP SP1 beta testing invitations

Microsoft has sent out e-mails inviting original Windows XP beta testers to participate in the upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 1 technical beta program. Here are some details from the e-mail:

Windows XP SP 1 will be available in several variations. You have been selected randomly to participate in only a subset of these primary variations, which you will be made aware of very soon. You will not be able to alter your placement.

  • SP 1 "Standalone" – updates an existing Windows XP Home Edition installation.

  • SP 1 "Standalone" – updates an existing Windows XP Professional installation.

  • SP 1 "Integrated" – updated Windows XP CD, for clean installs, updating existing Windows 98/Me/NT4/2000 machines, or updating Windows XP machines.
