Microsoft showcases exploded Xbox 360 and more

Microsoft is up to something concering its hardware products. We just don't know what it is yet. Today on the Next at Microsoft blog site, the company showed a picture of an exploded Xbox 360 console with some of its hardware guts showing. It also showed images of the Xbox 360 controller, the Kinect device, the Microsoft Touch Mouse, a keyboard and a desktop camera add-on with similar views.

So what's going on? Microsoft's Steve Clayton writes on the blog, "Swing on by the What’s Next booth within the Microsoft booth at CES to find out more…or come back here on Thursday for a video that will explain all."

Hopefully our Neowin team will be able to find out what exactly is up with this teaser image when they head to the Microsoft booth when the exhibit floor opens on Tuesday. Is Microsoft planning to release a number of hardware products with clear cases where we will be able to see inside or is this something else entirely? As always we will update you with the latest when Microsoft decided to fully reveal what they have in mind.

I am going to guess that Microsoft will be announcing that the XBOX 360 will become a standalone cloud computing platform, offering connectivity to the internet, Office 365, etc. without a PC.

For a moment I thought I was getting it wrong because of a language barrier thing, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of "BOOM!" when I read the title.

I thought an image of an exploded 360 would a sign of the new Xbox.

HAH! Same here!
And I thought I was alone...

I'm going to say it's devices with clear cases so you can see the guts. I say that because it's already been shown in an arc touch mouse, which is pictured...

Um... am I missing something or is this just a terribly named article?

I thought coup overthrow Ballmer from power. Did i missing something? oh, that wasn't case.

These aren't exploded pictures yet - these are just see through. Exploded pictures actually have the individual pieces exploded / projected outwards too and away from the screen.

Exploded? I think you mean see through.

This word has also been used on the source site. I was surprised by this use too. May be it also means opaque...

Or just a typo.

Maybe it's just an article visitor multiplier... *phew*

It doesn't actually show the insides, but rather it shows schematic diagrams of the insides. Believe me I know, I've seen the insides of a lot of Xbox 360's.

I mean er...you know...on the internet...

Oh yeah, me too .

Hmmm.... not sure I want to be able to see the insides of my Xbox 360... that novelty would wear off quite quickly

I also can't wait to see exploded Ballmer. I want to see what is inside him, that makes him so enthusiastic.

He's running on pure passion and a modified lithium-ion battery.

Cocaine is more likely the cause...
