We have seen Black Friday and Cyber Monday come and go in the past week, as consumers rush to stores and their favorite websites to buy products for the holiday season. Today, Microsoft is stepping in to support a new way for people to give to others for the holidays.
Microsoft's Citizenship blog has announced its support of "#GivingTuesday," a new national push that's being held today to get people to give to charity after all of the hustle and bustle of shopping in the last few days. Microsoft is a founding member of this new movement.
For its part, Microsoft has decided to support Give For Youth as its first #GivingTuesday effort. This is a project that Microsoft launched earlier this year as part of its YouthSpark program that lets people donate money to small and large charity projects that are geared towards helping children and young adults all over the world.
Microsoft says that, for today only as part of its #GivingTuesday effort, it will match any donation made to a project on the Give For Youth website, up to a total of $100,000. Microsoft says, "There are hundreds of life-changing Give for Youth projects, and on #GivingTuesday, you can double the impact of your donation through the Microsoft 1:1 match. Even a small donation can make a huge difference a young person’s life."
