Microsoft surface tablet on video, complete with dubstep

Microsoft's event today was certainly surprising, and the devices they showed off were incredible. Now, you can see the Microsoft Surface tablet close up, complete with dubstep and fast-cutting shots.

The Surface tablet is one of the biggest announcements made by the company in history and marks them leaping into a whole new industry that they've never attempted to get into before. OEM's could be upset about the move, or they could embrace it and take it as a challenge to create better devices.

I would love someone to tell me otherwise if I'm wrong but won't the screen just fall back if you're trying to use it on your lap in the same position you might use a laptop. The bit at the back that holds it up wouldn't work in this position would it?

First thing I thought of, when they said it was built using Magnesium was that I sure hope it doesn't explode in a flash of white light when it gets too hot.......

So this is something great.
Mark my words. OEMs are gonna come up with something better now. Else im going with the Pro version! its the perfect device. Love the touch keyboard idea. i5.. digitizer.. 1080p? that's all I need!!!!
I just hope the builtin GPU is strong enough to run all the Photoshop effects and such. Wow.. im gonna start saving for this from today!
love the kickstand! the build looks INCREDIBRU!

Alot of concerns about price.... but one thing that Microsoft can do that no one else can is be a loss leader like they did with Xbox. It was a great strategy that paid off in the end, but they were in the red for a long, long time selling the Xbox. They need to do the same thing here and undercut everyone.

The only thing that concerns me with this is how OEMs will react. If Microsoft is smart, they will use this to invest in more expensive materials to to help drive economy of scale so its cheaper for other OEMs to use it. Then, they need to tell OEMs, we have raised the bar this high, now exceed it for us.

Sharp looking device and video. Even my 10 year old daughter was impressed and likes it. She thought it was cool looking (especially with the pink keyboard )

prices in the ballpark of ARM tablet
has me worried, especially due to the guesstimate announced a while ago of prices due to Intel/MS not wanting to budge on the hardware prices to OEM's

I like surface but I am skeptical about it. The resolution is much lower than apple's retina display. There is no info about pricing and battery life. It is also made of a lot of components where apple goes unibody.

Microsoft Crap vs Apple Fashion Apple makes better products. This is coming from a guy who doesn't use a Mac and strictly uses Windows on the PC.

What would be cool: that Windows logo lights up with the same colour as the selected theme.

Yeah but then Microsoft will start crying about it consuming a lot of battery power lol

This is not a want. It's a necessity! Haha

Do you not have a computer today?
Do you need a quad-core machine? Why?
Do you need a touch screen? Why?
How much do you want to spend?
How long are you going to wait before you buy a computer?

Answer these questions and you may finally learn the difference between "Need" and "Want".

Hint: There is ONLY one correct answer for the last question If you "Need".

Oh wow how ugly is that... Zune hardware was a mistake.. I'm sure this won't be much different and on top of that I doubt it'll be much different to the developer tablet that just constantly crashes etc.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

One of the best statements I read: "At $500 with 10hrs battery life, Surface could be killer. At $800 with a 4hr battery life, Surface will get killed. Lack of info concerning." - Rene Ritchie

I am not a fool yelling shut and take my money until I have all the info at hand. What Microsoft presented was great but we still don't have all the information which is rather silly.

Microsoft: Here is a tablet with no release date. No battery life information and no price.
I am not sold yet.

In fairness, its a first look and is way of release..........more info will be coming, in the mean time, assuming no details emerge in the negative concerning price and battery, then they can shut up and take my money!

You are definitely right about the video. I still like the tablet though.

LOL, having just read pretty much every comment saying how good the video is, I think you can safely swap that definitely for an IMO. That video was amazing... IMO

the x86 Surface looks like a really attractive device!

and I hope the desktop experience will be more pleasant with my "metro" explorer replacement (built in WPF, running perfectly on my Samsung BUILD slate, with fluid transition animations and great picture browsing experience)

I am gonna have to say MS learnt from Vista failure (at the hands of OEM manily) and decided to play it differently this time......

That video. WOW. The first video my Microsoft to NOT suck! WOW. It actually... makes me a) not cringe and b) REALLY WANT ONE.

This needs to be released in EVERY country from the outset.

All my co-workers (about 100) were screaming and hooting watching this live! Most have iPads, they were yelling "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY MICROSOFT!"

I want to pre-order two of these NOW!

Goodbye iPad, it was nice while it lasted.

I can't be happier for Microsoft, finally all the R&D work on Surface is actually getting out to the consumer market - where it matters.

Screw you OEM's and your sub-par products. Even Intel had to step in so that these OEMs could start making decent laptops.

The other surface was (and still is) purchasable by the general public. It was just hella expensive. That surface and this one are completely different.

Don't really see it possible. For one the Surface cover and the Smart Cover are two different things. The former doubles as a keyboard. The latter is a one piece design that forms two stand positions. The only thing they share is covering the screen really... unless there's a magnet on the Surface cover for detecting screen locks.

Cant see it, MS and Apple play nice together right now and share a common free enemy, android. There is enough room for both apple and MS to play nice but they both feel (IMO) that Android has to go.

warwagon said,

MS and Apple do, in fact, have a patent-sharing agreement in play. Not sure exactly how far it extends, but basically they leave each other alone and sue Android OEMs instead.

Um laptops have had for feature for donkeys years now.

Don't really see how apple could have patented that when that's pretty how every laptop screen shuts off / goes to sleep / locks itself. There's one or two magnets near the touchpad.

Dear Microsoft, here's my money, please send me a black Surface with red keyboard cover.
K Tnx bye.

Also MS could you send me an RT Surface with a black cover? lol

Finally I can get rid of the last apple thing I have, the ipad! Until now It was the best tablet, but the iOS is for kids. Great news microsoft, finally a full blown OS in a tablet!!!!!!

The need to do a media blitz. Play this enough to where people see it a couple times a day, it'll do crazy.

Yup. Put this ALLLL over TV and it'll sell like crazy. This ad's a home run. Best since that fan-made WP7 ad from a while back.

It was about time. When Microsoft start designing their signature Natural Keyboard and Intellimouse line, only then other manufacturers like Logitech started making quality devices. So in the end it's a win for consumers

shut up and take my money! this is one seriously nice looking piece of kit!

Amen dude. This is what I have been waiting for, MS to enter the game for real now Apple and Google really do have to step it up.

Before giving your money, wait for the info about the price and battery life. I like it too but I am skeptical. I sense that there will be a huge disadvantage of it.

Out of (genuine) curiosity, what would you call it, then? It doesn't neatly fit into any other musical genre or sub-genre that I'm aware of. :?

That's the problem. If it were 140 bpm, then it still wouldn't be "dubstep". It would be brostep, a derogatory name for the debauchery producers like Skrillex and Rusko have created out of it.

Dubstep used to be an enigma - it filled a gap that has been in music for ages. Half time drums with a deep bassline. So deep, you couldn't hear half of it, and so it was made for being played solely in clubs. It was music that you felt.

Look up Morvern by 2562 to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Dub echo elements, the snare that only occurs every 4 bars, and a massive bassline that you can almost feel through good headphones.

Brostep took the "bassline" to the midrange, and made it a never ending competition to be "dirtier". As much I resent that scene of the genre, I do have to give it some credit for bringing more to real dubstep.

Wow...

I never realised being schooled in the musical arts could be so succinct, yet without any hint of precociousness or arrogance at all. Thanks!

Same story can be said about just about any genre really. It happened to rock (from metal to alternative to ballads) and dnb (drum and bass) among others. I think it's as good thing, there's a little bit of everything for everybody.
