Microsoft to finally ship Xbox One headset adapter in early March

Alongside the announcement of an official stereo headset for the Xbox One, Microsoft has also revealed that it will ship a headset adapter for its newest game console in early March for $24.99.

The adapter has been promised since even before the Xbox One launched in November and should make some owners of older headsets happy. The Xbox Wire site states:

Volume controls on the adapter let you adjust chat volume levels and mute your headset’s microphone without taking your hands off the controller. Simply plug the adapter into your controller and connect your compatible stereo headset to enable fantastic chat audio – thanks to integration with Skype’s audio codec.

In-game audio is enabled by connecting stereo headsets with a 3.5mm audio jack, or older Xbox 360 gaming headsets with a 2.5mm chat cable, to the back of the Xbox One via the optical cable or by connecting to a TV via RCA cables.

Microsoft has already announced that not all older headsets will work with the new adapter. They include the company's own Xbox 360 Wireless Headset and Wireless Bluetooth Headset. It also won't support the Warhead or Primer headsets from Tritton.

It is the very least that Microsoft can do...unless, they want to mimic Apple. That would further alienate the business/enterprise/serious consumer users from Microsoft. They did an excellent job of that with Windows-8.

Christ you have an axe to grind...

This console seems rushed/unfinished.

Considering Microsoft apparently spent over $100 million on the design and development of the Xbox One controller it is kind of crazy that they didn't just use a standard 3.5mm headset jack like on the Dual Shock 4.

I understand peoples frustrations. And Microsoft should have had a lot of stuff in place for launch. But they didn't. So it is, what it is...

But all I'm going to say is, chat through the Xbox 360, then the PS4, then the Xbox One... The audio quality on the Xbox One, is way superior...

Why use a standardized port when you can use a proprietary port instead... and get money from people who need an adapter to use their existing headphones?

If you can get away with it and consumers will accept it, then proprietary is an easy choice. It's essentially free money.

If it was possible to use Beats headphones on the Xbox One adapter, my life would be made.

Aren't there Beats ear buds that have a mic???

Seriously getting sick of your s***. I didn't ask for your damn opinion and I'm probably going to guess that you probably don't even try to put headphones at their full potential. Like seriously, one topic, and I get an effing negative comment from this little f...screw it.

Beats are over rated and nothing better than average £10 headphones.

+1

Marketing BS to the extreme. Even puts Bose's overrated snake oil to shame.

I agree that Beats are not as good as other headphones in the same price range however they are certainly better than a £10 pair!

definitely true. Bose is good though. Beats in a sneaky move took the b letter to mimic Bose but the quality is night and the day.

No, you CAN use this with the Beats and get game audio AND chat audio, AND use the mic on the cable. So long as the headphone jack has that 4 pole connector (which the Beats do, similar to cellphones like the iPhone) You can use them with this adapter.

MS's PR made things confusing for a while, and the thread on NeoGAF went on for pages bashing them until Albert Penello of Microsoft came in an set the record straight..........because they were also talking about setups like the Astro A40s and such which use optical audio for their MixAmp, they confused everyone.

IF you wanted to use the MixAmp, you can't (yet) until Microsoft releases the Dolby Digital update. But you CAN use the headset without the MixAmp, with just this new adapter, because its also got the 4 pole connector.

Long story short, this adapter gives the Xbox one controller the same function that the PS4 controller has. In all these scenarios, you will get virtual surround sound out of the controller.

Bose is just like Beats. Cheap, poorly-constructed budget headphones with massive markups pulled off by a fancy marketing campaign.

common dude have you tried this:
http://www.amazon.com/Bose-Qui...ng-Headphones/dp/B00D429Y12
go to store and try it. Its far from cheap. Quality is awesome. Its simply the best. don't make the price fool you I myself thought this is overpriced but it worth it because I am using it and love it.

And you're seriously comparing earbuds? I'm done with you all. I've tried a lot of headphones and Beats are one of the few that I enjoy getting bass and surround with.

You sound like a spoilt teenager! Your life would be made because some headphones work with an Xbox 1....seriously!

Listen, buddy. I WANT THE BEATS TO WORK ON THE HEADPHONES JUST LIKE TURTLEBEACHES WOULD BECAUSE I PREFER STICKING WITH MY FAVORITE HEADPHONES, STICK WITH THE LOGIC. I CONNECT MY BEATS TO MY MONITOR WHILE I PLAY GEARS OF WAR, IT'D BE FAIR TO BE ABLE TO GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS IF I COULD TALK WITHOUT HAVING TWO HEADPHONES ON MY HEAD. DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IM WRITING WHILE IN ALL CAPS?

I hate earbuds with a passion. I don't like things stuck in my ear, I prefer feeling the vibrations of bass though studio headphones.

If anything related to Mortal Kombat was legal right now, I would show you coronary. lol

Im not saying they are the best because i honestly dont know but I own a pair of beats and Monsters and Bose and the beats sound the best to be and the monsters have the best build. Im curious to know what people that hate beats would recommend that's better for the same or cheaper price? Someone wanna link us to what we should be using instead of beats?

One, I hate earbuds too. They are stupid and dont work for my ears.

Two, people really care that you use beats. Lol, if you like em, use em. Who cares if someone thinks you over paid or not?

But has anyone confirmed they worked? That was the real question =)...
