Microsoft to remove all gun avatar items from Xbox Live?

If you own an Xbox 360 and want to outfit your avatar with some kind of gun prop to let other gamers know you are a real man or woman, you might need to hurry up and purchase them ASAP. A post by Epic Games' community manager "raczilla" on the game developer's official forums says that those gun props will go missing on the Xbox Live Marketplace soon.

In his post "raczilla" says:

Heads up! Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, the Lancer and Hammerburst avatar items will no longer be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. If you’ve purchased the items prior to Jan. 1, you will be able to keep them. A new policy goes into effect for all gun-like avatar items on the Marketplace, so get them while they’re hot.

There's been no official word from Microsoft about this new policy nor any reason why the company is making such a change. It's possible that being able to purchase such props for your avatar might be a violation of some of the policies offered by the ESRB rating system in the US and by other game ratings system in other countries. In any case, if you have a few Microsoft Points to spend on avatar items, now might be the time to use them to pick up some props that might disappear quickly.

Now if only they were as "prompt" stopping America being one of the biggest gun dealers in the world and freely giving every tom , dick and harry several guns at a whim, because the real threat is a cartoon gun on a xbox.

Guns need more guns!!! WTF are we supposed to do when the zombie apocolypse comes? How are we supposed to get headshots every single time if we hide them in real life and even in games? Splain me that one!?

not talking about the dangers of our world wont stop them it will just allow more to happen. We must bring the dark into the light not try and hide it more.

No he can just kill you without trial, hold you forever or use drons track you all in the Country.

Dang... first my local radio stations start censoring "gun" and "bullet" and "trigger" from Foster the People - Pumped up Kicks... now this?

Wow, really? Nobody uses their heads anymore. Everything is based on knee-jerk reactions.

The Epic Games employees have been giving out codes for these items on Twitter for the past few days. Obviously trying to clear out old stock before they become useless.

Shhh They might have a limited number of codes to gift though. Normally you have to pay about 320 points for the prop so I wouldn't think Microsoft would give them an infinite number of codes
