Microsoft updates "NoDo" status, apologizes again

We've all seen our fair share of drama about Windows Phone 7 over the last few days, and you're likely one of the many who are still waiting for the update if you own a device. Today, Microsoft has updated its update status page, and many carriers are now listed as "Delivering the update."

The page lists many new carriers as rolling out as of today, including Vodafone Group worldwide, which is good news to a large amount of users. It's not all good news though -- AT&T is still testing the update -- along with many others.

In addition to the update, Microsoft even issued another apology over on The Windows Blog about the issues;

I know many of you are disappointed, even angry. You certainly have a right to be. We’ve fallen far short of your expectations, and our own, and for that I’m truly sorry. We didn’t set out to let you down. But it’s clear we did. Whether you’re someone who has followed our progress from the start, or are new to Windows Phone, you deserve the updates we’ve promised. My job is to get us on the right path and deliver them.

It looks like the majority of users are set to get NoDo in the next few days (or weeks), and who knows, we might even see Mango soon? If you're still waiting for NoDo, we have a guide here on how you might be able to force it to pop up quicker.

I got the update a couple of days ago using the method mentioned above. It's not big enough of a difference to "get fed up" or freak out. I like to be able to copy and paste, but honestly it's not going to be one of the most used features ever. The performance improvements are, however, rather noticable when loading games especially. Must be nice to "get fed up" and just decide to buy (outright, I'm assuming, considering these are barely 6 months old) another phone. You just made a shameless "I'm loaded, look at me" drop while simultaneously trolling AND declaring Apple fanboism... congratulations. SMH.

AT&T is supposed to be Microsoft's premier partner in the US for WP7. The vast majority of users are likely running a Samsung Focus - I feel so sorry for those stuck on 2yr contracts, they're in for dreadful time, waiting for something, anything to happen. How the hell can the premier US partner be STILL testing the February update with delivers absolutely nothing new?!!

I remember watching an MS video late last year, showcasing their new humungous phone testing facility. They can test hundreds of phones in parallel for hours on end, against all the carriers' requirements, methods and specifications, supposedly negating the need for the carrier to have to embark on any testing at all. It was certainly an impressive video and yet the Samsung Focus failed at the very first hurdle with the February update, no wonder AT&T are nervous but surely, you'd think they'd pull their finger out and get a move on!

I'm just ecstatic to see AT&T has an approximate timeframe for testing completion.

Mate, see my comment above & Johnny's comment above mine - give it a go, it could work for you

No such luck, but I don't want to change the carrier setting on my phone unless this delay turns into a permanent (or regular) thing.

I didn't change any settings at all, just tried disconnecting & it came through updating. either ur phone has the registry key required before modification or it doesn't - I was lucky enough to have a handset that had correct key already without needing mods.

For anyone still waiting on the update, there's a rather simple, non-hacky way to force the update that should work for most people, just take the first method from the top post here:

Worked like a charm thanks haha!! I opened network settings up on my PC & simply counted to 3 and disabled my PC's wireless adapter at which point the message for an update instantly appeared on phone & within Zune! I then enabled my wireless adapter & clicked on update :-)

FYI - I'm using a 3UK branded locked Omnia 7 that is now running NoDO

After some time if you use a lot a phrase it starts to lose its meaning. I just don't hope to get an apology for each update or each month an update is delayed

That is one of the best apologies I have ever officially seen. My respects.
It's one thing to be wrong. But to recognise it that shows alot.

Agreed. It's a strength that I always advocate & practise myself, to admit you're wrong is to make yourself better and improve yourself & your abilities and will give more enjoyment to other people interacting with you.

Yeah exactly, they could have said some lame excuse or something, but they just came right out and just said we screwed up.

Yeah, we really need to give them big props for this Second apology. Glad to see they're not pretending its not an issue.

I wonder what AT&T is "testing".

Maybe AT&T are busy removing the Marketplace so you can only install AT&T approved apps

I just wish that they allowed technical people to update their own phones manually when the update is ready. Fair enough that carriers need to support the updates, but there could be a disclaimer that by updating your phone prior to your carriers approval they can deny you support unless you are running a tested update...

This is a sore spot for me as I have a phone that I bought outright, but through Telstra. I am actually on Optus. I assume I will be able to get the update only when Telstra authorizes it.

I brought Orange branded mozart, got it unlocked to giffgaff but it still had oranges rom so i got htc branded rom for mozart and now update to 7389 by default then got update to 7390 (nodo final) so if you can find your debranded rom you should get updates when unbranded phones do (on time)

I still think NoDo is a strange name for an update. It doesn't do anything? It has a negative ring to it.

It's short for "no donuts" because apparently somebody forgot to bring in donuts for a meeting about the update or something.

NoDo is the perfect name actually :-D

It is a sarcastic reference to the Doughnut update for Android that overall went very poorly. Bit of Karma in play if you ask me, considering how much trouble they have had, I'm not the only customer they lost with this debacle.

You're making that up.

No, it's not. It's about someon forgot to bring donuts to the meeting. Joe Belfiore told the story himself. No reference to Google at all.

There are references in the videos on channel9.msdn.com

I don't think anyone really knows for sure. I have heard both stories; the Android jab at the Donuts update and the forgetting the Donuts for a meeting.

What ever it is, it should have been called "NoDice".

I watched that video. Nowhere did Joe Belfiore said that NoDo has anything to do with Android.

Maybe NoDo is, in reference to to Android Donut update and
Mango is in reference to Apple. Both of them are fruits, and obviously Mango is the tastier one!
I think there was a motive behind these names.
