Neowin Member Reviews: HTC Desire Z

It's that time of the week again, where we showcase a review submitted by a member in our forums. Remember that we consider all reviews that are submitted here. Who knows, your review might make the front page next week!

This week we've selected a review by seasonic.

Today I’m going to be reviewing the HTC Desire Z (This phone is similar and looks like the T-Mobile G2 in the US and the CDMA version is the HTC Merge ; The codename for this phone is HTC Vision)

The phone actually feels pretty good in the hand. The weight makes it feel solid rather than heavy. I expected that I would notice the weight but actually not at all. Got sort of use to it as if it was natural.

The back cover that covers that battery is made of metal and gives a nice touch to it. Makes you want to touch the phone! There are moments when you get "confused" on if to open the keyboard towards the left or the right but in a second, you can figure it out.

The buttons on the phone are so so: Most, if not all, could be a bit thicker and stick out more. Some music applications allow you to hold the volume up/down buttons and skip songs. After a week and heavy music listening, I still have trouble finding the up/down buttons. The front captive buttons (Home, Menu, Back and Search) are so so to touch but this does get better with practice and getting use to the phone. I find myself naturally knowing now how to use them.

I also have this phone. It's very fast! Keyboard feels nice, Doesnt feel like I'm gonna snap the phone in half, the G2 section on XDA Developers is where its at

I have the G2 (Desire-Z/Vision) and it's an amazing phone. Flashed the new leaked Gingerbread T-Mobile update for it about a week ago and it's simply amazing.

Truth is, many of the G2/DZ/Vision regulars on XDA developers are opting to go with this yet unrootable new PCIMG10 because it is just that sweet. Great battery, stable, and lightning fast.

I won't go through the feature list but for a 4G capable phone, this one is a must see at the very least. Whatever carrier, go hold one and try it out. It's much sturdier than it looks in the pics and there is no hinge issue.

What's the problem with writing a review for an older device? HTC hasn't made another landscape slider to replace it yet (the 7 Pro is a WP7 device), so it's still the current generation.

No offence to the reviewer, but this isn't exactly a new phone?

Its a ~6 month phone.....Most (users) cannot review a 0 day released phone.

What about (users) who review (an) older (phone)?

There is something between 6 months and 0 day.
Why not the newest LG? A friend of mine has had it for a month, or the new Samsung-review that got in today?
Seems kinda pointless with a review of a phone thats old.

wtf? He can only review something he's bought. If you don't want to know about it, don't read it O_o

I can't help but feel HTC had a good run with the Desire. So in an attempt to regenerate sales they just name new phones HTC Desire S, HD, Z etc

Well it looks like a Desire with Desire HD buttons so what would you name it?

I am not sure but maybe i will buy this device to replace my Galaxy S, i like the keyboard and i can use CyanogenMod to get rid of the crappy Sense UI...
