New iPhone in June confirmed by AT&T to employees

Boy Genius reports that AT&T has confirmed to its employees that there will indeed be a new iPhone release in June. This comes after the same source reported that there was a vacation freeze for all employees in the same month. The news isn't exactly surprising, as all previous models of iPhone were released in June, and the annual keynote at the World Wide Developers Conference will be held this year coinciding with the logical June release date.

The much anticipated phone comes on the heels of heated controversy over Apple's handling of leaked (or just misplaced) information about the phone. Many times, the controversy overshadows the real story, which is the phone itself. It has been rumored and pretty much confirmed for quite some time that there will be a front-facing camera that will have video chat capability, as well as an updated backside camera with LED flash. According to Gizmodo's perusal of the prototype they found/bought, the screen looked like it was sporting a higher resolution than previous models, 960x640 pixels. All in all, it will be an exciting release, and I'm sure much of the controversy over Apple's behavior as of late will die down once users can get their hands on the new iPhone.

My upgrade has been due since January (iPhone 3G here). I have deliberately avoided upgrading to the 3GS as I (like everyone else here) expected this in June. Following the leaks, this is definitely the phone I want.

What's the best way to secure a phone through O2 without waiting through potential stock shortages? Hassle them daily?

Can AT&T's network handle the additional bandwith needed for video chatting w/ that front camera on the new iPhone?

I get drop outs and busy signals here when we're having major events.

960x640 is fantastic, but how big is the screen?
Not that it matters - I'm allergic to apples.

Perhaps Samsung will bring out a 960x640 SuperDuper AMOLED screen for next years Android 3.0 phones.

All I want to know is if it's coming to Verizon. I'm holding off on getting a new phone/contract to see what happens with the iPhone and Verizon.

I'm anxious to see the new iPhone in person, but unless my current 3GS breaks on me I will probably hold onto it for as long as I can. Maybe look to upgrade in 2012. Definitely not earlier than 2011. And at that point, who knows what provider or phone I will go with (although I currently project that I will be sticking with iPhone). I'm just kind of disgusted with the amount of waste we are generating with phones these days. I'm especially disgusted with my own amount of techno-garbage waste. I need to get over always having the latest and greatest....

Who cares...at&t's network can't handle the traffic it has now, a new iPhone will just add to it.
HOPEFULLY other (USA) carriers get it SOONER rather than later, so some of the iphone drones will
switch carriers, freeing up at&t's network, cause god knows they aren't improving the speed much!

I was saying the same thing, but in my area back in February (I think) AT&T added a new tower and I've been getting solid 3G ever since. Speeds are normally between 1.0 and 1.5mbps.

I'll still take the EVO 4G.

Same here, July won't come quick enough for me, cause that's when I'm getting mine

As a developer, this annoys me.... Just means we'll have to make two resolutions and that can be a major pain! LOL! But hey ... I still want one!

If its the res as everyone has quoted, its exactly double in both directions, so that means there shouldn't be much to do.

So Apple should maintain an antiquated 480x320 resolution forever because you're annoyed? They have squared the resolution, so I doubt it'll be very difficult to compensate.

You already have to develop for two resolutions.

Released in June or Announced in June?

Correct me if I'm wrong but they're announced in June, but not necessarily released then...

From what I know, it's both. Apple has already announced and released their iPhones immediately after. Announcement comes June 7th, which means we can expect the iPhone 4G/HD by June 15th-ish.

First one - announced in Jan, released in June.
Second one - announced in June, released in July
Third one - announced in June, released in June
Fourth one - June 7 will the announcement. Release will probably be in June.

In the UK, I spoke to an Orange Customer Service rep who said the same -- a new iPhone in June. I don't think I'll be buying out my contract just yet though!

Yeah, I've heard the same through various sources. Friend at Phones4me, friend at O2 and friend of a friend who works for Apple tech support all said they've been told there'd be a new one in June.

Really?

I heard from a bum on a corner of a McDonald's, there will be a new iPhone in June. I guess that pretty much confirms it.

I can't wait either. And I'm not a fan boy, at least not an Apple fanboy. MS all the way, except with the iPhone.
