New Need For Speed Most Wanted to be made by Criterion

The new entry in the Need For Speed family of action racing games will get its full reveal in a few days. Today, Electronic Arts went ahead and confirmed not just the title of the game, but also the developer and even offered up the first screenshot from the title.

As we have reported before, the next Need For Speed game will be a new entry in the Most Wanted franchise. The first such game with that title was released in 2005 and focused on street-based racing. Today, EA confirmed, via the Need For Speed Facebook page, that UK-based Criterion Studios will be developing the new Need For Speed game.

Criterion is perhaps best know for making the Burnout series of arcade racing games but in 2010 the developer also released Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, an open world-based game where the fight to avoid being picked up by "the man" was the main focus.

The Facebook post included the first public screenshot from the game, shown above, which shows a BMW model being chased by a police cruiser. Much more information on the next Need For Speed: Most Wanted game will be revealed on Monday as part of EA's pre-E3 2012 press conference.

Honestly, stylistics of Most Wanted 2 reminds me more of Undercover, which was worst in all that Underground - Undercover series.

Hot Pursuit 2010 was bloody awesome. This could be as well.

Also nitpickiness: Hot Pursuit was equally about running from "The Man" as it was being him.

Bloody awesome was Hot Pursuit 1. Second was weak. And third doesn't even worth of attention.

Will have to disagree here. I do have the first Hot Pursuit but played it years later after it came out, on a computer that ran the game a bit too fast. Also have the second Hot Pursuit which I heard was butchered outside the PS2 version.

For the record, I'm not really a fan of Burnout. But I do like how well they styled the third Hot Pursuit.

NFS most wanted was my favourite of all of the NFS games. If this is a continuation of the story and a revival of it's game dynamics it may well be enough to get me back into the NFS series

Looks good, I'll probably get this unless it's only on origin.

It won't be on Steam most likely, but it'll be on things besides Origin (like their other games.)

Since burnout went ok, criterion can make a far better NFS:MW with the know-how of Burnout title.

I can almost say it will be a Burnout with NFS layout.
