As we reported late on Sunday, Microsoft has released the 1.0 version of Skype to Windows Phone users. However, in Skype's official blog, the company also listed quite a few known issues with the 1.0 version. Perhaps the biggest problem with Skype on Windows Phone is its memory requirements. As the list notes, "Your Windows Phone requires a minimum of 512MB of memory to install and use Skype."
That means the first version of Skype does not work on Windows Phone products made specifically for the "Tango" operating system update that are designed with just 256 MB of onboard memory. The Nokia 610 and the ZTE Orbit are among the Windows Phone products that won't be able to run the Skype app, at least in its first public incarnation.
Some of the other known issues with the 1.0 version of the Skype Windows Phone app include no support for Bluetooth headsets, not being able to send a Skype SMS, and no support for retrieving Skype voice messages. If you use Skype's IM feature, very long messages may also not display correctly in the 1.0 version. Microsoft has not given any indication on when these rather large issues will be resolved.
