Next Issue Windows 8 app released; read lots of magazines for one monthly fee

It's been available for a while for iOS and Android devices, but now Windows 8 and RT tablets can check out a rather cool new app that's made for people who enjoy reading magazines. It's called Next Issue and it's now available for download in the Windows Store.

Basically, Next Issue's business model is similar to Netflix or Spotify, but instead of streaming videos or music for one monthly fee, users can read a ton of different magazines for one monthly price. Next Issue for Windows 8 and RT has access over 75 magazines, and user can read a number of back issues as well.

There's a 30 day free trial and if you like the service, you can sign up for a $9.99 per month subscription which allows access to most of the digital magazines in Next Issue's library such as Car and Driver, Glamour, Men’s Fitness and more. Users can get all of the Next Issue magazine selections for $14.99 a month; that price adds People, Entertainment Weekly, Time, Sports Illustrated, Golf World and others.

The app also supports Windows 8 specific features such as being able to pin specific magazines to the Start screen and semantic zoom, along with notifications on when new issues are available.

Amazing a better model for this type of content wasn't introduced years ago when it mattered and could have gained some all print is pretty much dead to me and most other people.

Save yourself the money. This isn't the hulu of magazines like some articles claim.. If anything it's more like the netflix of magazines.

Most of these magazines are the who's who of unreadable dreck that populates your doctor's office, with 1 or 2 exceptions - and it would be cheaper to buy those directly.

It's a shame that it's not available in the UK. I'd definitely be interested in picking up the $9.99/mo subscription.

Cool to see this coming out.. but its fairly expensive for what you get without much focus on anything but women's magazines and fashion rags

I like Nook, you can subscribe to a decent amount of magazines for 1.50/month.. so I can get the 6 I want for the same price as the 75 i'll never read..
