Nintendo Talks GTA & Wii

In an interview with an American television station, Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America, said that Nintendo has done all it can to persuade Take-Two Interactive Software to bring the Grand Theft Auto franchise to Nintendo consoles, and it is now up to the third party publisher to decide whether Rockstar Games' immensely popular series will appear on Wii. We should know more later in 2007 regarding this issue.

I think they should just leave it alone. Nintendo has always been a system for adults and kids. I feel that if they go that route of putting GTA on it the soccer moms will have a field day with this. It will end up being a watered down version of the game. Instead of it being a "M" rated game they will tone it down to a "T" rating. I know there have been tons of other violent games on nintendo but GTA already has some estabilished hate out there already. I rather they just leave it alone then for them to destroy the game.

Steering with the nunchuck (like if you were holding a steering wheel with one hand) and shooting with the Wiimote =D
Don't know if that would be too complicated, or what.

But is it possible that having GTA would make some parents lose their trust for Nintendo? Maybe if they released Bully instead it would be more accepted...

steering with the nunchuck wouldn't be possible i think as the motion detection in it is limited compared to the wiimote

I'm sorry to sound like a party pooper but the question IMO is has NOA done all it could or is he talking about NOJ as well too, because like it or not if NOJ is only half-heartedly behind the push to get GTA it doesn't matter how much NOA wants it cause NOJ calls the shots.

Yeah this would be a great thing for the Wii, it would attract a wider audience and generate more software sales. Hopefully this works out, in addition to the things mentioned above, it would be interesting to see what they do with the wii-mote. Granted the graphics would have to be dumbed down, but on the plus side, it will be fun.

This would be absolutely amazing if GTA was bought to the Wii! The Wii Remote could be easily implemented as someone said above and also you can use the Wii Remote for beating people with a baseball bat/golf club etc. and also steer cars using the Wii Remote sideways just like you do in Need For Speed Carbon.

I think this will be a brilliant game for the Wii.

They really can't do that when the nunchuck is in use.

However, they could use the nunchuck and Wiimote in concert to create a virtual steering wheel.

Wouldnt the control sideways be a VERY bad idea for car control? If you are using the control for aiming and get in a car then as you rotate the control to get it sideways weird things will be happening with your view. Also you cant forget alot of the times a car transition in this game has to be performed extremly quickly otherwise you die, I dont think mucking about wit hthe orientation of the control is a good idea.

I'd think the analogue stick on the nunchuck should be used for walking forwards back and straffing while the wiimote is used for looking about while on foot (and perhaps aiming a gun while on a bike)

I never really thought what it would be like to have GTA on the Wii. Sounds like it could be done, but it would take a while to get used to. Aiming/shooting would be good though.

Part of me would like to see GTA on the Wii, the other part of me fears it would attract the, well, "GTA" crowd of players.

I hope you aren't serious

Do you think of all GTA players being violent or something? I play it and know many others that do and none of us are violent people. I like playing it for the things you can hear people talking about in San Andreas when you walk around. I don't think people realize how funny these games actually are.

Nintendo is known for the more family friendly console and maybe they'd like to start getting away from that image a little bit by getting more adult oriented games like the GTA series or Bully on there

No, I think of them, for the most part, being the lame "casual gamers" that turned the industry into what it is today. A metric ****ton of WW2 FPS', crappy sports games, and ports and rehashes. Don't get me wrong, GTA is a good franchise and I enjoy it, but it's also attracted a crowd that has watered down a big portion of the videogame industry.

Don't go off on a damn tangent over an assumption.

Gamers didn't water down the videogame industry, the videogame industry watered down the video gameindustry!

You know, the one company that keeps coming to mind when I think of crappy WW2 FPS, bad sports games and ports is EA Games.

In a time when games are becoming less gameplay involved and more focused on graphics and aesthetics, GTA is a shining light that proves not having the best graphics, big CGI cutscenes and spectacular sound can still make for an enjoyable game with many many hours. Most EA games are now the type you can complete in a day.

I'd figure that you'd use the joystick on the nunchuk to move around (much like in Twilight Princess) and use the Wiimote for aiming your weapon. Hopefully they'd have auto-locking disabled (I really hated that w/ the previous console GTA games, which was why I got them for the PC) so I can make quick headshots with pistols and shotguns.

You could use the Control Pad on the Wiimote to change weapons and the A button to talk with people and otherwise interact with the environment.

I'd think of other ways that both the nunchuk and Wiimote could be used (in terms of the other buttons that I didn't mention) but I just woke up. :P
