Nokia and Microsoft holding press conference September 5th

Microsoft and Nokia have just sent out press invites for an event of September 5th. The invitation, which you can see above, is clearly in the style of Windows Phone, to no surprise, and if we were hedging our bets, it's going to be Windows Phone 8 related.

Going off of our own speculation, Nokia will likely announce its next generation of products that will run Windows Phone 8 and we can only hope that they will ship shortly after the announcement. When we interviewed Richard Kerris back in July, he was optimistic about Windows Phone 8 and Nokia's upcoming products and we hope they bring to the table a serious, tier 1 competitor, to the marketplace.

Whatever Nokia has up its sleeve for the event will surely be watched closely as the company works to turn the ship back towards profitability.

Here we go, please show me a top of the line Nokia WP8 phone... and make it available when WP8 launches... not "next year sometime"

this is my greatest fear...
plus: "pricing will be announced at a later date closer to launch"

Bloomberg said they would show off new WP8 devices that date so I'm counting on that right now

I think they will, remember on the 7th they have something going on at their main Nokia retail store also.

Its probaby the day they'll start shuffling out 7.8 to the Lumina line. Then they can have another get-together in two months for the "everything 8" month.

Dunno, if they do show new WP8 devices they're not going to hit retail right away anyways. So they could show them to us September 5th and say they're going to be at carrier shops in late October or something.

The Nokia Lumia 900 I bought over two months ago came with Tango pre-installed...

Dear ladies and gents, we have decided to split our brilliant hardware between Windows Phone and Android - let the good times roll.

HTC's poor quarter says nay!

That won't happen.

So you're saying you want them to take the amazing hardware and put a ****ty os on it? I don't think that's their plan.

Similar timing to the rumoured iPhone 5 announcement means I won't have to wait around for whichever device I end up getting (assuming Nokia can deliver a new Lumia shortly after an announcement). Good stuff.

That's probably what Nokia is aiming at right now, it would help the a huge deal if they could annouce it before the iPhone since people would be more aware of it and might consider buying a Nokia instead of an iPhone (if Apple doesn't come up with something "revolutionary" like a bigger screen or something /s )

What's the chances of a sneek peak at a Nokia tablet as well? Seeing as Win 8 has hit RTM now

That would be pretty big news, might get that though odds could be slim at this time. That's an extra cost Nokia might not be willing to make right this moment. They could do it in Q4 though.
