Nokia confirms availability of Lumia 800 battery update

With few exceptions, Nokia’s Lumia 800 Windows Phone has received glowing reviews, both from tech media and those who have taken the plunge and bought one for themselves. But one complaint that some users reported was that of poor battery life on the device, a problem that Nokia acknowledged and has been working to resolve, with the availability of a new software update being announced by the company today.

A few weeks before Christmas, Nokia announced that it was pushing out the first of two updates that would address the problem. A couple of weeks later, Nokia released further information that shed some more light on the issue, claiming that the actual battery consumption of the device wasn’t at fault, but that “a software problem on certain variants is limiting the phone’s ability to access the full battery capacity”, assuring users that the second update should finally solve this problem.

Nokia today announced the availability of its new update via Twitter, informing customers that it would be rolled out over the next two weeks. An additional announcement on Facebook from Nokia UK confirmed that the update would indeed ensure “enhanced battery life” along with “greater Wi-Fi connectivity”.

As with other Windows Phone updates, this one will be delivered via the Zune desktop software (or Windows Phone Connector on Mac OS).

Received my bundled update from Vodafone UK today. Includes all the fixes released by Microsoft and the battery fix. Biggest change is that charged capacity and battery capacity are now the same. Before the fix, my battery said 1487mAh and charged capacity was 1211mAh. That should squeeze a bit more life out.

No sign of tethering though

I already received one update that fixed the battery flaw... it's unlikely, but if this second update gives me even MORE battery life, I think I'll only need to charge it like twice a week haha.

Just got the update. Let's hope it works.

Yup, just started updating my WP to version 8107.79. Network 3 UK.
But this is not the update that will fix the battery issue, only the keyboard bug, right ?

Correct, 8107.79 is a software update, unless it bundles your HW update (Which you can tell from the change log or the FW revision on the about page)

You know, after Mango came out, I was barely experiencing the keyboard bug, but it seems to be happening far more frequently now (Where they keyboard just disappears)... I hope this fix is pushed out soon for everyone.

Keyboard bug?
Sometimes the keyboard hides itself while you are in the middle of typing. You have to click outside of the text entry box, and then click inside it again, for the keypad to pop back up, only for it to instantly **** off again. Very annoying. Seems totally random as far as I can tell. Mine hasn't done it for a while now, thank God.

There can also be a delayed response when you first start typing. It doesn't seem to happen when the keypad sound is muted, (haven't really investigated that fully) so I think it's caused by the audio file taking it's time to kick in, and causing a slight freeze for... half a second. Also pretty annoying, because you don't think the key press has registered.

Just little software bugs that they need to hurry the **** up and fix. Other than that, the interface is as smooth as a babies arse

Oh they've already fixed that with build 8107.

You can either wait for your carrier to get it or look for how to get it on XDA. It's a pretty simple installation if you choose to do it the other way, just download a zip file and run a batch script.

The bug is caused when background agents start. Over time you have installed new apps, which may have installed new background agents. With more background agents, the more the keyboard bug occurs.

The numbers of appz you have installed doesn't matter, all the agents are only being executed every 30 min.

I have a Lumia 800, bought SIM free in Italy but set with English language; Both Zune and the laptop are using US English language and settings.
I received this morning both the MS upgrade, now I am at OS V.7.10807.79 and the Nokia one.
Regrettably while the details of MS update were clearly listed in Zune Nokia only states "Update".
I would have preferred that Nokia had also listed the improvements delivered instead of rely on the Web to find it out.
Anyway the process was smooth with no problems whatsoever.

The Dissapearing keyboard bug was OS related and has been resolved in the OS update now pushing from MS
