Nokia Italy pokes fun at competitors with Lumia 920

Nokia is once again poking fun at competing OEMs with this image uploaded to Twitter by Nokia Italy. The image shows three students in a classroom. One is facing a chalkboard that lists the Lumia 920 features, while the second student (Samsung?) is trying to copy from the third student (Apple?). Nokia is trying to put across that they're unique and come up with their own ideas rather than 'borrowing' from other smartphone makers.

Last month Nokia also took at swing at both Apple and Samsung by tweeting the Lumia 920 specs along with "No, it doesn't take a genius", a jab at Samsung's recent advert comparing the Galaxy S III to iPhone 5.

The Nokia Lumia 920 features Windows Phone 8, a 4.5" display, 8.7-megapixel camera, NFC and wireless charging. The device may be heading to Europe soon with European telecoms saying that they will be selling it in November.

I've always been a iPhone user but this new Nokia looks really good, it's just the weight, but I think I could get used to it, I don't know tho

Seriously... the biggest hurdle I see for Nokia (in the US) is this damnable AT&T exclusivity.

About 70% of the US market simply won't have access to the 920.

Who thought this would be a good idea?

After years of selling phones, the goons here still don't understand.

ATT is the largest seller of Windows Phones. Why? Because most businesses use AT&T. Why? Because AT&T is the only carriers that uses a GSM WorldWide band. It means people who travel can use their phones as is without changing their SIMS.

This si a big advantage over T-Mobile, Sprint and VZW. When are you guys going to learn. ATT is gettung the best Lumiza device because they simply have the benefit of the above and will sell plenty of them. if VZW had the Lumia or T-Mobile or Sprint, they wouldn't sell in the sam numbers ATT will sell them.

Please attempt to understand business. Its the same reason Apple went exclusive with ATT with the iPhone. They needed to get fast penetration. Even VZW and Sprint don't sell as many iPhones as ATT. In fact when VZW got the iPhone 4, they only sold 1/2 as many as ATT did. VZW sold 6M while ATT sold 14M. With the 4S Sprint only sold about 3M vs ATT again selling double digits.

Understand now?!

I freely admit that I do not know how US phones are sold, by this I mean I don't know what the process is, but surely there must be some way to buy an unlocked sim free handset, yes it'll most likely be expensive, but in the UK it's allowed, I'd find it hard to believe that it wouldn't be allowed in the US.

In the USa we have thw same options you have. We can purchases phones directly from the phone maker in most cases unlocked. if you go into a carrier and you buy a phone cash and it isnt an unlocked model, since you arent signing an agreement you can request the device be unlocked as well. If you are a customer, they shouldn't charge you to unlock the device because when you pay cash it should be unlocked. But most carriers only received locked phones because most people buy on contract.

We can purchase unlocked versions on Ebay and Amazon too. There are paid services online you can use as well to unlock a device you already own even if it is locked to a carrier.

We have options here in the USA, some people are just clueless and dont look.

Guess who's market share is going to go down if WP gains traction? Apples is pretty secure. Google should be very worried, bet they wish they had some of that 'iSheep' loyalty about now.

Funny advert though. Even if its a rather bad photoshop.

Funny that Nokia is poking gun at the competition considering they are not doing well and WP gas yet to prove itself.

It's kinda interesting considering Nokia haven't sold a single Lumia 920 yet.

You know damn well what I meant here. I mention WP and Nokia as a company. So what I said still applies. Nokia is bad mouthing the competition with little to back it up

I was agreeing with you: Nokia's attitude is interesting considering the fact they haven't sold a single Lumia 920 yet.

Frustrated much?

Then I apologize. Considering past posts, I took that as being sarcastic.

No I'm very much serious. I think Nokia is making a fool out of themselves. First by announcing a product without releasing any details on availability and pricing. Now they're making fun of the competition without having sold a single unit? Apple already sold millions of iPhone 5s, I'm sure the same goes for Samsung's Galaxy S III. So honestly, what has Nokia to laugh about? As far as know they failed to generate any hype whatsoever amongst the general public.

This is exactly what I feel when Nokia pokes fun of the, let's face it, big boys. I understand that they are trying to generate publicity and hype but that can easily backfire and turn them into a laughingstock (as if they aren't a laughingstock yet for the not tech-savvy users).

Samsung didn't copy anything from Apple. Apple is the copy-cat. But I see what YOU did though.

Just to clarify, I didn't make this. Saw it on the web a few weeks ago.

yeah, the sales of all of the devices will speak for themselves by this holiday season!

well they just flushed 1/2 the US market with being ATT exclusive. that will go well I'm sure

The difference will be between being "shipped" from "sold"

Shipped is sold. if a phone maker ships product to a carrier, that means the carrier paid for them. Whether they sell them to anyone else doesn't matter to the phone maker. Have you ever owned a business? Oh no? yeah, that's what I thought.

Samsung sold 9M GS3 on pre-order which all went to carriers. It's still a sale since Samsung received money. Its up to the carriers to sell their stock to their subscribers. Apple sold 2M on pre-order and ran out. Sad they couldn't even make 5M phones for the release date. And thanks to Foxconn even more delays.

Windows Phone is the new Xbox 360 as iPhone is the PS#. When XMAS came Sony didn't have any boes to sell, but MS did. Now look who's on top.

Yeah, even I can do a better photoshop job than that advert and I suck at Photoshop.

Its not a Photoshop, it's an actual still from the commercial. Better go get some glasses before you go blind.

I think you need the glasses or you really need to read the article BEFORE posting as it states:

"Nokia is once again poking fun at competing OEMs with this image uploaded to Twitter by Nokia Italy."

Note the word IMAGE i.e. NOT a still from a commercial.

It will be all for naught; Nobody gives a rat's ass about Windows Phone. Meanwhile, the iPhone is selling millions.

Good luck, Nokia. You need it.

that's what we said about android and look who's laughing now. apple is going nowhere with its 30% or so share. android is the real competitor.

Apple isn't going after total OS marketshare. They are going after top device sales.

What you said is funny, but in principle it isn't. You all laughed at Android too and told Google Good Luck! @ years later Google had 1/2 the marketshare as Apple and now they have doubled it. Who's laughing now?

You keep forgetting something very important. Microsoft has a much larger audience than Apple does. Windows is avail in more parts of the world and is priced to move. Windows only blockade is Android which can compete at similar price pointsd. Apple can't compete except by using 3 year old phones. Notice in the last Quarter for Apple, most of their sales were of the iPhone #GS which is free and the iPhone 4 8GB which is $99. Both outsold the iPhone 4S. seems price is a big issue for many.

But with Android I can get a NEW phone that is more capable than an iPhone 3GS and 4 and even the $S for $99 or less.

RIM is dead. If Microsoft can capture just 50% of the clients they lost to RIM, MS will have 50% of Apple. market in 2 years or less. They are at 3% now. Funny, Android was at 3% after 2 years too. Where are they now. So stop laughing as you will again be looking like a deer in the headlights.

While this kind of advertising is funny to people such as us, the general public (i.e. the majority of people) aren't going to understand any of the hidden messages in advertising like this. Sometime I wish that companies would stop attacking each other and just let the products speak for themselves.

Yes, exactly my thoughts. Message is too subtle for general audience!
