Nokia launches some HERE apps for all Windows Phone 8 devices

Nokia has offered owners of its Lumia smartphones a series of exclusive Windows Phone apps ever since the start of the Lumia brand, offering those phones a wide range of features such as Nokia Maps, City Lens and more. Today, Nokia announced that they have rebranded many of those apps under the HERE label and have made some of them available to all Windows Phone 8 smartphones for users in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The Nokia blog reveals that the apps include HERE Maps, HERE Transit, and HERE Drive for all Windows Phone 8 smartphones, along with HERE City Lens and HERE Drive+ (still in beta) for Lumia devices. All of the apps are designed to work together to create a seamless navigation and information experience. The blog states:

In particular, from HERE Maps you can launch HERE Drive(+) or HERE Transit if needed. In HERE Transit you now get a map overview of nearby stations and stops, and when you need walk navigation to get to the stop or to the final destination, you can start HERE Maps from there.

The newly announced Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 smartphones will have the HERE apps preinstalled and ready to go.

Weird: my Lumia 920,SIM free and unbranded, does not show any updates but a manual search for Here show all of them as available updates...

I was only able to find the HERE Drive Beta app on my HTC 8S in Canada. I couldn't find the HERE Maps app on my device or online until I found a link to it from a news site. I clicked on it and noticed that the publisher differed from the one I found here: http://www.nokia.com/global/apps/lumia/here/

Instead of "Nokia Corporation", it's "NAVTEQ EUROPE B.V.". It's the same app but it has a link that says "Check my Windows Phone Store" which brought me to the Canadian store. I couldn't find the HERE Transit app or the HERE City Lens app though.

EDIT: Here's a link to the HERE Maps app on the Canadian store: http://www.windowsphone.com/en...11ae-409a-8503-b02ac71f8362

EDIT 2: Okay, I found the right links. You should see an option to see the app in your home region:

Nice! Good to see Nokia actively developing apps for all users to enjoy! Nokia, you are the driving force behind Windows Phone!

So far, I can only install the HERE Drive Beta app on my HTC 8S in Canada. If they make the maps app available for non-Nokia devices, then I will be extremely happy.

Nokia Drive is still BETA on the 920, why should you get the non-beta then

Hah! The beta version is available to anyone with a WP8 device. As for HERE Maps and Transit, I found both of them earlier and I am very happy.
