Nokia Lumia 925 leaks ahead of tomorrow's London launch event

What? You didn’t seriously think that Nokia would be able to keep the cat in the bag, did you?

Despite teasing the new device in TV adverts yesterday, Nokia will have been hoping that it would be able to keep the newest addition to its Lumia line-up under wraps until its official announcement tomorrow, but alas, it was too much to hope for. The first (relatively) clear image of the Nokia Lumia 925 has been leaked by the usually reliable @evleaks Twitter account, revealing a sleek device that may well end criticisms of excessive weight in the company’s flagship handsets.

We’ve known about the Lumia 925 for some time, as the 'Catwalk', a thin and light handset set in aluminium bodywork. It's rumoured that the device will have specs that are broadly similar to those of the current flagship, the Lumia 920.

While we can't yet confirm those details, we do know that Nokia's teaser ad included the tagline "more than your eyes can see", along with lingering close-ups on the handset's camera, so we can probably expect a strong focus on photography and the company's PureView technology.

We'll be reporting from tomorrow's event to bring you the full details of the Lumia 925, along with clearer pics, hands-on impressions, and an interview with Kevin Shields, Nokia's senior vice-president of product management. Stay tuned to Neowin for all the latest developments, and be sure to follow us on Twitter @NeowinFeed.

I don't like Nokia's numbering system for their devices. It isn't coherent and confuses normal shoppers who would potentially buy a Windows device. After the 900 series, what are they going to name it? The Nokia 1000, 1010, 1020............

This is basically a 920/928 in an aluminum shell. This isn't bad, it's just another option for an already great phone. We probably won't see anything better than marginal hardware upgrades spec wise from Nokia until later this year / early next year with the release of GDR3 (blue).

928 no. 920, kinda. I've played with one of these and yeah, the similarity is to the 920. Biggest difference is the sculpt. I prefer the 920s personally, but this is thinner and felt lighter. And the screen area has moved up. You'll see what I mean shortly. There's less empty space at the bottom now but a touch more at the top. Nice phone

Will this be the handset that comes to T-Mobile USA? Please let it be so...

That's what it's being rumored. Hope it turns out to be true!

Absolutely. I am still on HTC HD7 with a forced update to 7.8. I really like T-Mobile and have been with them since Voicestream. Really wanted the 920, but you know how that is..

Hm... I wonder how this will differ from the just announced 928... I mean, they're holding a reveal event for this one, so I'm assuming it has to be unique...

I still think the 928 is offered in black/white for a couple major reasons. 1) To allow manufacturing to ramp up given it is a new size polycarbonate shell. 2) VZW probably wants to avoid offering shell colors that are the brand colors of competitors in the USA; cyan = AT&T, yellow = Sprint, magenta = T-Mobile.

Hm... That's a good point that I hadn't thought of... But I still want a 928 in Cyan... LOL
