Nokia's Bandit phablet to be called Lumia 1520

By now most people have probably heard about Nokia’s rumoured upcoming phablet, codenamed: Bandit; but thanks to famed leaker @evleaks, we now finally have the device’s real name: Lumia 1520.

The Lumia 1520 is expected to be a device with a 6-inch screen that handles full-HD resolution. The handset will also reportedly feature a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 20 megapixel rear camera, which will put a small bump on its rear.

Nokia is expected to unveil this device before the end of the year alongside Windows Phone GDR3 that will add support for all the new fancy specs on Microsoft’s mobile OS. And now that we know what Sirius and Bandit are, we’re really keen to find out what Rivendell and the other leaked codenames are.

phablet not my cup of tea. I wonder what's the deal with Nokia with Snapdragon and Tegra with surfaceRT? Is there a difference?

Surface's Tegra is old, and was old when it came out. It might've been the best option for MS at the time, though. I'm sure Nvidia has a newer Tegra now, with more power, features, etc.

The Snapdragon being shown is newer, so it should be powerful. Not sure what else to consider - I'm sorta new to ARM.

Either way, its an ARM chip, just like Intel and AMD make x86 ones. I think its a System On Chip)SOC), so it'll have the GPU and loads more on it too.

Competing companies for the same market. Good stuff

Wow, this is terrific news! Not only can I replace my phone, tablet, and camera with one converged device, but I can also get a whole new wardrobe with larger sized pockets.

I'm just surprised that Nokia didn't capitalized with the smaller (7 - 8") form factor since that's what people are gunning for these days.

I hoping that AT&T and Verizon price this tablet properly as well on a two year contract.

Well, 6" is a small tablet, big phone, hence "phablet." Too small for a "real" tablet, too big for a normal phone. If they released a 7-8" phone, they would need to include a Bluetooth headset with it.

Showing my ignorance here, but does the iPad homescreen auto-rotate at 10 or 8"-mini sizes? The Nexus 7 is nice to use in portrait, but felt unnatural being fixed as such (before the Launcher update). The Galaxy Note felt a bit silly being so portrait-restricted (as it was when I considered one).

Why is it a x20 device.. shouldnt it already be 30 or 50?
we will see some of them in autumn to replace the models right now, right? need a replacement for my 920 because my girlfriend wants a windows phone

Look towards next gen versions of the 1020 and other regular flagships. It's likely we'll see the mid and high 1xxx as tablet/phablet spaces with the lower being regular handsets. Now just imagine what the Lumia 3310 will be...

What happened with 11xx, 12xx, 13xx and 14xx? Space for more?

There could be 5" and 5.5" devices in the works as well plus updates to the 1020 with the newer snapdragon hardware.

Better question is why is it a xx20? 20 indicates second generation (dual core). This is a quad core which should be considered third generation or 1530.

It doesn't say it doesn't have a pureview, only that it's a 20MP camera. and with a bump tha indicates it's a pureview anyway.

Lumia 920 is also a pureview camera, thought it's only 8.7 MP.
But I agree, I'd love to buy a Nokia phablet with 41 MP.

Since the 1020 just came out I don't think they're in any rush to replace it in a few months, this isn't HTC we're talking about here.

Well to be fair, this is part of the *20 series, it would be weird for a 15* Lumia device to have a camera worse then a 10* device. Now if it was part of the *30 series, that would make sense. But, it's not. Just creates an awkward divide for people who want the highest end camera with a phablet screen.
