norton utilities was king during the ms-dos days. now it's a freaking joker. getting more and more pathetic with each iteration on windows platform.

I don't know why it still exists, aside from marketing and making clueless people think they need all this junk. Windows has come a long way and none of these "utilities" are really needed anymore.

Me either. I used this back in the late 1990's. Been using CCleaner and Mydefrag since they came out.

I was trying to uninstall NIS trial that come with my friend's Samsung laptop... I never saw piece of software that tries to be not uninstalled - proper link (doesn't look even like button) to that action was written by small letters and I'm pretty sure that ordinary user would miss it and hit button that would keep whole suite.

I used to use a few of these utilities back in the win9x days and some in the 2k-xp days, but all i use now is ccleaner.

Yes same, using just CCleaner and MyDefrag.
I think during that time these tools did work and improve performance, it was more noticeable on slower machines.
I gradually stopped using the Registry cleaner as I noticed it caused problems, but Registry compacting tools did improve performance.
Now, the things are much better with Windows as it optimizes the registry itself.
Also the machines are fast enough to take care of the little extra load without giving much performance improvement after using these tools.
I guess these tools are now mostly purchased by novice users and it is giving them a placebo effect that their system is running faster than before.
I think this should be banned as this is equivalent to exploiting novice users.

Wow didn't know this was still around used to use it in the late 90's too but absolutely no need for any of that stuff nowadays besides CCleaner (which although nice and useful not 100% necessary either)...

Registry Cleaners should not be used. It's better to manually clean up after uninstalling software that leaves #### in the registry.
