Open Source film competition Stray Cinema launches website

Remixing music has been around for years, it's about time film had a turn. Stray Cinema has released the raw footage from a film shot in London, for the general public to download and make their own version of the film, to submit into their competition.

Stray Cinema is asking participants to download source footage from its website and re-edit it into a short film. The only stipulation is that the finished product contain at least 80 per cent of the original footage and be no longer than two minutes in duration.

Michelle Hughes and a group of collaborators shot the raw footage in London a year ago. It was shot on a handheld digital camera and follows an actress around the London tube and other city landmarks.

Hughes says the top five films will be screened alongside the original film cut, at an official Stray Cinema screening in London. That will be held six months from the day 30 film submissions are posted to the Stray Cinema website.
