There is an extension "open-in-background-with-long-press" with which you can click and hold the left click and it opens in the background tab.

Does it have a laptop-friendly shortcut for opening a link in a background tab yet? Last I checked, it was kind enough to use middle clicking the same way every other browser does, but was religiously opposed to ctrl-click doing anything other than saving images that clearly aren't there when you're using it on a link. Middle buttons aren't very common on laptops, and the three-finger tap isn't the most natural feeling gesture in the world (let alone accurate).

There is an extension I discovered because my middle click button malfunctioned. It opens a link in a background tab. Go to Opera extension page you'll find it.

I've been really slow to move over but ya know.....the more I use the new Opera the more I like it!! I find myself using it more and more.

love the trash can ... my pron will never be lost ...

on a serious note is it just me or I always find myself with 20-30 tabs opened?! ... maybe a feature could be some sort of folder thing ... just saying

Finally they fixed the mouse gestures

Agreed. the tab scrolling (hold right click and scroll with mouse wheel to change tabs instantly (by default it don't do this though)) and closing tabs (hold right click then move mouse down and to the right) with the mouse gestures actually works much better now and more reliably like a extension i got for Firefox (i.e. FireGestures v1.6.1) does

so by default i think i really like Opera 11 more than Chrome or Firefox with the options they give you in the program. but in general Firefox i prefer for my primary browser because it's the overall smoothest of the major browsers that are not IE.
