The sole interest in these Opera release articles are the bashing comments. It's just too funny seeing people complain over and over again.

I'd love to see them do better... Oh wait, they can't, so I see no reason for bitchin'

No,
They haven't lost me, yet, but sure as heck not upgrading to this version yet either, as it's TOTAL garbage! May not EVER upgrade even as with this thing switching to that crap a** Chrome engine, I feel as if it isn't even Opera anymore. If I wanted to use the Chrome engine, I'd install Chrome, but I can't stand that thing!

Out of interest - why do you say it's crap? For me it's substantially faster and far more compatible with a lot of websites. TBH Opera's biggest positive wasn't the engine - that'd fallen far behind the competition - it was it's customisation and featured UI. It's this that Opera are rewriting from scratch (they don't share Chrome's UI) and that's where they'll diversify. I don't like Chrome either - but the Blink engine itself it's darn good for me.

Don't be such a hater. Opera's contributing to blink. A lot of good stuff are coming for the opera browser side of things too.

The article points to the original 16 release notes - the changelog for this version is actually:

DNA-6601 Quick typing strings at address field doesn't start search
DNA-9416 [Windows] Opera isn't focused when opening a link from an external program
DNA-10383 Corrected positioning and sizing
DNA-10461 Fix Opera 16 source release build on Mac
DNA-10726 Implement a gentler crash-loop recovery policy

It's a stability patch.

So no features added.

No, that's the point of a stability patch. They already have 17 in the Next branch progressing well (with new features) and 18 in the dev branch thenafter. Opera's development cycle is now very different, meaning that the 'current' build is only bugfixed. It's pretty sensible and the faster release cycle results in less wait for new features. Check out the Next branch for yourself to see what's coming er.. 'next'

Opera made a bad move, and it cost them most of thier users.

I'd hope not. I'm still using it and I think they made the right decision - they aren't pushing out 15/16 as an autoupdate to 12.x users until they feel it has enough of the features of 12.x to compete properly. Using 15/16 etc is purely optional at the moment, and they'll even co-exist quite happily by default.
