Packaging revealed for Windows Vista and Office 2007

Special thanks to Neowinian trekkie. for posting this in Back Page News, and Googler24022 for submitting this news to us.

Microsoft today revealed the retail packaging for Windows Vista and Office 2007, the eagerly awaited new products to be made widely available in early 2007. The boxes boast a completely revised and redesigned packaging. Writing on the Windows Vista Team Blog, Nick White said:

"Designed to be user-friendly, the new packaging is a small, hard, plastic container that's designed to protect the software inside for life-long use. It provides a convenient and attractive place for you to permanently store both discs and documentation.

The new design will provide the strength, dimensional stability and impact resistance required when packaging software today. Our plan is to extend this packaging style to other Microsoft products after the launch of Windows Vista and 2007 Office system."

Keep reading for a glimpse of the designs for yourself.

Wow, you go to a lot of effort to make yourself feel good about not using Windows. Wait here while I fetch you a medal for your outstanding art and attitude.

Whoever designed that must be the biggest uneducated fool in this planet?

Ive seen 3 trolls made by this member and not one removed. Once again mods do whatever they basically want. Yes I know mods cant be here 24/7 but there has to be at least one mod around that sees one of the three comments made by this member.

Oh, you're soooo cool. Can I be like you?

You should at least insert a link to the image, not the image. x)

i bet if this wasn't (apparently) a cropped screenshot, we'd see a start button somewhere.

I use linux, mac, win. But unlike most people I don't play any favoritism. Im pretty content that they all offer something good and can be appreciated equally on a different level. Cut the bs off and grow up and if you can't then you ought to be airing your dirty laundry somewhere else. Simply don't post really large images on forums especially if your going to focus on your unwanted opinion you jerk! Sry for my outburst but ive just really grown sick of the abundance of bigots on the internet. Have a nice day :P

who knows, they may all make it to wallpapers in the rtm.

remember the xp home and pro and media center and server wallpapers that came with them?

all pretty nice...cept home premium. not liking it's dark green. the home basic ones are quite like the colour scheme on my website

I had a sneaking suspicion that the new Add/Remove Programs icon would hint at the final design of the boxes!

Ultimate looks Hot, and Home Basic looks pretty nice too!

Wow thats a stuningly beautiful box there. Microsoft finally actually have some sense of style in their packaging. AAAAGHHHH I KNEW IT!! they were putting all that effort into making the box look goood and fine tuned more than the actual product itself. I shoulda knew it. Shakes head. LOL JK. Im compelled to buy it even more now. Now i can have a pretty box sitting smashed under a pile of other crap in my closet cuz yea the only real thing that matters is the OS itself. But hey give it up for microsoft they gave us eye candy inside more eye candy. Haha yea but to be serious i am looking forward to buying vista and it is nice to know that they have a package that doesnt look like xp's box or xp itself which ive allredy gotten quite sick of looking at after a few days after using vista. I like microsofts vision now i guess. There design is beginning to be promising for once.
