Playable Pac-Man on Google

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic game Pac-Man, Google has included an interactive version of the game on its homepage. This is Google's first fully interactive "doodle" on the homepage.

If you browse to the homepage you will notice that the classic "I'm Feeling Lucky" button has been replaced with an "Insert Coin" button. Clicking this will start the game up and the arrow keys can be used to control Pac-Man. If you click the Insert Coin button again then you will be joined by Ms. Pac-Man who can be controlled by a second player. This player can use the WASD keys to control the character.

Marcin Wichary, senior UX designer and developer of Google Said:

"When I was growing up, my dad had the best job I could possibly imagine: he was an arcade game and pinball technician. For me, that meant summer trips through Poland’s coastal cities with their seasonal arcade parlors; peeking inside cabinets to learn programming and engineering secrets; and—of course—free games!

He says one of his favourite games as a kid was Pac-Man which inspired him to go to so much effort for the game's anniversary. The game will be up for two days "because it’s too cool to keep for just one day".

What really sucks is you never get to see these things if you use igoogle.com as your homepage....

Don't use igoogle then

played through a few screens... then tried playing pacman and ms pacman at the same time... now THAT is hard to do... (unless you keep them together)

I actually found it easier to play them both at the same time.

Just so you know. This is also playable on iDevices using swipe gestures as it's written in JavaScript.

Laggy though

I think it's neat. But it should be opt in. It shouldn't start automatically when sitting idle on the page. That's just annoying.

Come on, how long to you actually sit idle on the Google home page? Sounds like someone complaining just to complain.

Lol, I agree. How can it idle?

It doesn't play sound until you touch it so why does it matter?

Uh, go to google (while they still have pac man) and sit there for less then 20 seconds with out doing anything. See what happens.

Don't play it!!! Google logs the keyspresses so they can analyse your gaming preferences, GOOGLE STEALS YOUR PRIVACY.

Anyway, the game's awesome and I hope it'll turn into the new minesweeper

lol same here! I went to search for something and ended up playing pac-man for 20 minutes, completely forgot what I was doing!

if you have CoolPreviews for firefox enabled, itll mean you keep hearing the game even though the tab is closed after subsequent browser launches.

I had the same problem. If you disable the add-on it stops the sound?
