Qualcomm announces Quick Charge 3.0, promising 80% charge in 30 minutes

Qualcomm has announced an evolution to its Quick Charge technology, promising significant performance gains in charge rates. The new charging technology, QuickCharge 3.0, will be featured in Qualcomm's next line of upcoming mobile processors and be able to charge from 0 to 80% in 30 minutes.

Although we have yet to see any devices in the wild, Qualcomm's latest charging innovation will arrive on devices that offer the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617, and 430. Naturally, these devices should arrive shortly and be available in mass in 2016. While Qualcomm does provide the technology, it is up to device manufacturers to supply the appropriate pieces necessary to take advantage.

Naturally, third party manufacturers like Tronsmart are already prepping chargers that will be able to accommodate Quick Charge 3.0 devices. Luckily, if you do not own a Quick Charge device, the format utilizes a standard USB configuration that is backward compatible with most, if not all, devices. Check back later as we get our hands on Quick Charge 3.0 device to see what kind of real world results are achieved and if Qualcomm lives up to its claim of charging a device up to 80% in 30 minutes.
