Rogers confirms iPhone 4 prices; big three offering 6GB data for $30

rogers

Hours before doors open to Apple Stores and all the major carriers here in Canada, Rogers, Fido and Bell all released prices for the iPhone 4, including special price promotions for data plans.

Rogers has confirmed that the iPhone 4 (black) 16GB will retail for $159 and the 32GB model will sell for $269 with a 3-year term voice and data plan contract. The iPhone 4 will only be available in black around the world until Apple solves the light leakage problem with the white model. Along with the release of the iPhone 4 on all the carriers in Canada, they will also be offering a special price promotion as they did last year, 6GB of data a month for $30.

Rogers and Bell will also be offering a special iPad 3G data sharing plan. Rogers will be offering this deal for $20 on top of your monthly data plan, while Bell will sell this for only $10 a month. Still no mention if Fido or Telus will be offering this deal at the time of writing.

All the major carriers will also be dropping the price of the iPhone 3GS 8GB (black) to $99, including a $50 rebate, with a 3-year voice and data contract.

You can pick up the iPhone 4 in Canada and 16 other countries around the world starting tomorrow, but warned of limited quantities. Most places are offering the iPhone 4 on a first come, first serve basis. Rogers and Fido can enter their phone number on their website and see if they are eligible for an upgrade.

One thing this article doesn't mention is that with Rogers if you want to cancel your contract and get out early, Rogers charges you separately for canceling your data plan and voice plan. With Bell it's a straight $20/mo charge.

Virgin Mobile is also the 6GB/$30 plan

Virgin Mobile in Canada runs off of Bell's network so the price would naturally be the same

hmm, weird that Telus hasn't come out with anything like this

Prices of iPhone 4 in Canada:

Rogers/Fido & Telus locked iPhone
8 GB - 3GS - 3 years - 99 CAD
16 GB - iP4 - 3 years - 159 CAD
32 GB - iP4 - 3 years - 269 CAD
That's 30 CAD less than the 3G and 3GS when they were released.

Bell locked iPhone
 8 GB - 3GS - 3 years - 99,95 CAD
16 GB - iP4 - 3 years - 159,95 CAD
32 GB - iP4 - 3 years - 269,95 CAD

Apple Unlocked iPhone
16 GB - iP4 - 659 CAD
32 GB - iP4 - 779 CAD

Rogers/Fido & Telus unlocked iPhone
16 GB - iP4 - 649 CAD
32 GB - iP4 - 749 CAD

Bell unlocked iPhone
?

BTW, the Big Three are Rogers, Bell, and Telus. Fido is part of Rogers.

One small correction - the phones are *NOT* unlocked when purchased from the carriers directly at the full price quoted. They are 'contract free' but definitely not unlocked.

The only place at the moment to get an unlocked iPhone 4 or 3GS in Canada is the Apple stores.

It's the first time I read about a 3-year contract.. Omg!

Yeah, my friend in Ottawa talks bout it all the time. Raped with no lube or even a thank you! Lol

You can go anywhere from 0 to 3 years. The higher the subsidy you want the more years they tack on. Buying your phone outright gives you leverage to get a better deal on the plans.

Fido is not a major carrier in Canada, and is owned by Rogers. The three major carriers are Bell, Telus, and Rogers. Also, Wind does not support the iPhone as it uses the AWS bands. If Apple releases an iPhone for T-Mobile, Wind users will be able to use it, however.

WIND Mobile (Canada) charges $35 for unlimited data (yes, really unlimited but they throttle down after you reach a certain threshold).

Lol Canada has cheaper data plans than America now (well apart from Sprint and T-Mobile)?

Aren't AT&T and Verizon charging $25 for 2gb of data?

I pay $30 for unlimited with Verizon (or whatever the "unsaid" cap is). I'm actually looking forward to tiered though, I'll take a 2 gb limit if itll save me a lot, 1/2 my usage is over wifi as it is.

3 years!? No other options!? Can you buy the phone sim-free and get a sim-only contract?

Yes. You can buy the phone outright without a contract. It would cost $700 give or take.

Yeah you can, but those prices have not been announced, afaik.

159CAD and 269CAD. That's 30CAD lower than what I expected.

that's the prices on a 3 year contract .. I just don't see it.. that's expensive for just a phone. I guess if you love your technology that's the price to pay.. but forgive me please, but that seems high..

EDIT: maybe I should give my background, I run a $60 wal-mart pay as you go phone.. the 3 year contract price is still more expensive than my non contract phone .

How long does Rogers typically have this data plan offer? Apparently they do this every summer.

I got one last year, I believe they last up to 2-3 months.. or whenever the iPhone hype dies down. Last year was crazy because they were constantly out of stock on the iPhone 3GS for months.

They usually do it with a big lauch, like the iPhone, and for things like back-to-school or sometimes around Xmas. But they do usually have this at least 2-3 times a year lasting upto about 2-3 months.
