Rogers gets Canadian exclusive to Nokia Lumia 920

On Thursday, AT&T confirmed it will have the exclusive on selling Nokia's upcoming Lumia 920 smartphone in the US. Today, Canadian wireless provider Rogers announced a similar exclusive for resident in that country for the launch of Nokia's high end Windows Phone 8-based smartphone.

The Rogers press release also confirmed the Lumia 920 would be able to connect to Rogers' faster LTE network. However, the company did not offer up any pricing details, nor did it give a specific launch date, saying they would reveal those particular details at a later time. AT&T has confirmed it will begin selling the Lumia 920 sometime in November.

Today's announcement from Rogers did not mention anything about if the carrier will also sell Nokia's other Windows Phone 8-based smartphone, the lower end Lumia 820; there's been no word from any of Canada's wireless providers when or even if they will offer the Lumia 820. In the US, AT&T has confirmed it will also sell the Lumia 820, but again did not give out pricing details. We will offer news alerts when Rogers and AT&T announce their official pricing and launch dates for the Lumia 920.

Canadian WP fanboys should be happy with what they get...There is only 3 major carriers in Canada, one of them has ZERO Windows Phones, the other 2 carriers have only 2 models each...thats right only 4 different Windows Phones to choose from in Canada and all 4 are Nokia

Just get it unlocked. At least the Nokia's have quadband UMTS unlike the HTC's...I had to buy a Mozart Telstra to use with Rogers/Fido 3G.

In Saskatchewan, Rogers hasn't made the effort to rent-out SaskTel's towers like Telus or Bell has, so coverage is terrible. Too bad, Nokia. You lost a customer in the illusion that your product is the equivalent of an iPhone that functions well as an exclusive product (i.e. - moves carrier demand). I am not going to downgrade coverage for a phone.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F..K ROGERS!!!!

what did you expect?

i'd love fido... much better customer service! same network.. but less "premium" smartphones picks.

So the worse of the 3 main providers in Canada is getting the best Windows phone. Makes sense.

Yea it's pretty annoying. I'd be possibly tempted to buy a WP8 device outright and use it on my network (Bell) but I'll have to see how the devices stack up and what sort of prices.

I'm happy with my android device (HTC Raider) but I'm really a windows guy for my PC and generally like MS products so I'd be tempted to switch over once I see how the OS and the devices perform.

I don't get their strategy with exclusives. Just make it available for all carriers and everyone will be happy.

It's carrier muscle, not preference by the ODM/OEM.

Good news for me because I still have the option to upgrade. I've been sitting on my upgrade option since 2010 when I bought my Focus outright. I also bought the Lumia 900 outright in May of this year. This time around I'm waiting more than three months to buy the 920 if they don't have the red on launch day.

Hopefully Rogers listen to all the complaints that was on their forums about not having the cyan 900 last time around.

Rogers get with the program and offer more colours.

Not sure what the big deal is. All service providers in Canada are equally ****.
I just want to know the price of the damn phone.

All providers are crap, but only one is fighting in court to have the right to lie in advertising

/Which is Rogers

Are you saying that Bell doesn't lie in it's advertising? lol

Not all of them. Wind Mobile is great. I've been with them since December 2010 and I'm very happy with the service (back then as well as now).

And Nokia's site says they're only getting black.
Sad day for me and other Canadians who hate Rogers, or are in EDGE only areas.

MobileSyrup got an email from Nokia that kind of makes it sound like Rogers might be the only carrier to get Black in Canada, which gives me a small glimmer of hope that Telus will get it as well, just not in black

this would make my day as rogers really is the worst canadian carrier, pricing, coverage, and plan wise in Canada. i'm currently with virgin, but i'd switch to telus for this phone, but there is no way i'm switching to rogers.

the worse??? that is what i thought too

i have switched to bell, and bell shares the 3g/4g network with telus.

I miss rogers very much.... the 3g connectivity and signal strength in bell/telus on modern smartphones is CRAP!

i am going to FIDO next. or maybe even to rogers again, for lumis contract deal

either way, outside of rogers/fido you only have to be LUCKY with your location to have decent service... every other provider SUCKS if you are in a tough spot/

Im on telus already and whenever i look at plans from other carriers i cringe. 50 bucks for unlim caling/5 gigs data/voice mail/caller id/3way calling is unbeatable here. Sadly, i really wanted the black 920. Im deciding between multiple phones, and sadly the lumia is out of the question for me now. Hopefully telus gets the 8x or im stickin to android.
