Rogers to sell Lumia 920 first in the world, starting Tuesday

The first place in the entire world where you can buy a new Windows Phone 8 device will be in North America, but not in the US. In fact, Canadians will be the first to get the chance to own a Nokia Lumia 920, thanks to Rogers.

The wireless carrier previously said it would have the Canadian exclusive for Nokia's high end Windows Phone 8 device. Today, WPCentral.com reports that Rogers will start selling the Lumia 920 in its stores on Tuesday. Yes, that's tomorrow.

The smartphone will be priced at $99.99 for a three year contract or you can pay $549.99 with no contract. Rogers also announced it will sell the HTC Windows Phone 8X and the Samsung ATIV S devices but no launch date for those phones were announced.

Rogers also announced a big marketing effort for Windows Phone 8 in Canada, and Microsoft, along with the smartphones' hardware device makers, will all apparently chip in to pay for the promotional campaign.

Waiting for yellow and cyan (getting one of each). Stupid Rogers and not listening to anyone for the last month about wanting choices and not just black...

Getting one today hopefully. I didn't pre-order, but also Rogers didn't advertise it so I think I'm safe till at least noon!

Love the Lumia 900 and can't wait to get my fingers on the 920.

Commenters above: HELLO! It's going to cost CAD !!! $549.99 !!! (without plan)

That is super aggressive. Consider that feature-by-feature (both hardware and software) this is objectively the best phone ever made in the history of time. It's the best phone any money can buy.

Waiting for yellow. Sorry Rogers. Really sad, only one colour is coming out. Hopefully, by next month maybe Bell gets yellow.

Man, telus is not announcing any upgrades for me...

Exclusive is only 3 weeks. Telus could carry coloured variants inside of a month.

That's great news! I can wait a month.

Can I buy a Canadian Lumia 920 and get it to work on AT&T?

Yes. If you get unlock code from eBay.
I would hold off if I were you, as there will be exclusive AT&T apps that won't work on any other variant. It's the carrier stranglehold in North America.
We need to band together to fight this lunacy.

Sorry Rogers, I am waiting until you offer another color than black. I am sick of your boring colors.

Don't wait too long since my patience has some limits... and other sources will sell the phone. Want my money? You know what to do. Yellow.

I'm with Bell, if I buy it out right from Rogers will I have to get it unlocked??

Unlikely, you will probably end up having to pay an unlock fee but who knows!

Agree with ingramator,

Plus there will be features that won't work even if you manage to unlock.

Stupid Rogers with their exclusivity and crap

Stupid Rogers has stupid exclusivity over stupid everything. And their coverage in my province is ABSOLUTE CRAP.

Even worse, the prominent provincially-owned service provider has only had two Windows Phone 7 products so far, the LG Quantum one (the sliding keyboard one) and the HTC Radar. Hopefully they place a bigger bet on Windows Phone 8 since Blackberry's been dying.

Im with Telus. I really wanted to upgrade to the 920, but in no way am i going to switch carriers...
I'll be waiting anyways to make a decision, after all... when wp7 came out a month after i got it they were giving FREE XBOX 360 with it. Was not a good feeling.

I don't know why you'd want a phone with skydrive or office on it. Looks like just something to fill the screen!

and didn't they previously announce they would be releasing it in some European countries (like Sweden) first?

You're in Saskatchewan too?
