Rumor: Nexon in talks to buy Valve?

Is Valve finally ready to sell out? According to a new media report, the company behind games like Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and many other games, along with the Steam PC gaming download store, met with Korean-based Nexon to discuss a possible acquisition deal.

Joongang News reports, via unnamed sources, that the two companies met in Hawaii on Wednesday, with Nexon reportedly offering a $893 million deal to acquire Valve. Nexon's US PR rep would not comment on the reports and Valve has yet to comment.

Nexon and Valve have partnered in the past, with Nexon launching an Asian version of Valve's Counter-Strike franchise. Nexon has also had success in the US with its many free-to-play games, including MapleStory and Combat Arms.

However, Valve in the past has resisted being bought out by larger companies as it seeks to go its own way, including developing its own hardware prototypes and expanding its Steam platform to work on large screen televisions.

Recently, a report said that Electronic Arts has made moves to purchase Valve in the past, but Valve's founder Gabe Newell has said he would rather have the company "disintegrate" before selling out.

Microsoft should buy Valve for about 2Bil ( IMO )
It would be a good investment for MS and then MS can get rid of GFW *Chilled spin*

How the heck can Nexon be still alive? There is no way they have the cash to buy ****, and if they did it will become ****. Everything they touch becomes quite bad.

some nobody company is gonna buy Valve well known around the world ?
not bloody likely.. compare highlights 2 free to play games i never heard of
and joint counter-strike game ? what ever lol
what a joke. I'm sure Gabe would have laughed at em

It's not exactly an unknown company lol... South Korea has the largest percentage of PC gamers in the world, as well as the most competitive only gaming scene.

and Nexon also happens to be the largest PC gaming company in Korea.

Sure their US support is terrible etc etc, but they're definitely not a no-name company. They have plenty of capital.

Nexon and NCSoft? That doesn't even sound like an educated attempt at guessing a rumor. What a nightmarish PC gaming world we would be in if Nexon took over Valve.

God I hope not. As a longtime and occasional player of Maplestory and other Nexon games, I know their user support is freakin terrible.

Don't worry, not gonna happen... and as a former MS player I agree with your sentiment, they're horrible.
