Samsung announces the 2016 Galaxy A series of smartphones

Samsung launched the Galaxy A series of smartphones last year to tap the premium mid-range market, and now the company is ready with the second generation of devices for 2016.

The smartphones that have been announced by Samsung today, include the Galaxy A3, A5 and the A7, out of which the 2016 A5 had already showed up at Chinese regulatory authority TENAA earlier. All three smartphones, now feature the company's latest design language, as seen on the Galaxy S6 and the Note5, with a premium metal and glass finish.

Samsung has introduced some of the features present in its flagship smartphones, such as optical image stabilization, fingerprint scanning and Samsung Pay in the new A5 and A7.

The hardware specifications of each of the devices are as follows:

Galaxy A3:

  • Network: 4G LTE Cat 4
  • Display: 4.7-inch HD (1280x720)
  • Chipset: Quad-core 1.5 GHz
  • RAM: 1.5 GB
  • Storage: 16 GB (upto 128 GB microSD)
  • Camera: 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front
  • Battery: 2300 mAh

Galaxy A5:

  • Network: 4G LTE Cat 6
  • Display: 5.2-inch Full HD (1920x1080)
  • Chipset: Octa-core 1.6 GHz
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage: 16 GB (upto 128 GB microSD)
  • Camera: 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front
  • Battery: 2900 mAh with support for fast charging

Galaxy A7:

  • Network: 4G LTE Cat 6
  • Display: 5.5-inch Full HD (1920x1080)
  • Chipset: Octa-core 1.6 GHz
  • RAM: 3 GB
  • Storage: 16 GB (upto 128 GB microSD)
  • Camera: 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front
  • Battery: 3300 mAh with support for fast charging

Samsung hasn't revealed further details about the chipsets that have been used in the smartphones, but we could know more about them once the devices become available. The Galaxy A series will be hitting the stores in China by mid-December with more countries following later, however, the pricing still remains a mystery and we will have to wait for local launches to get that information.
