Samsung begins UK rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop to Galaxy S5

Google's latest official figures, published on January 5, show that less than 0.1% of devices have so far received the company's Android 5.0 update. But the rollout is gradually gathering pace - the HTC One M8 and Sony's Xperia Z3 range are among the devices that will get the Lollipop update in the coming weeks.

Samsung began pushing the update to its Galaxy S5 last month, but only in Poland and South Korea. The update expanded to Galaxy S5s in Spain and Russia a couple of weeks ago, and today it has made its way to the United Kingdom.

However, as SamMobile reports, it appears that the build that Samsung is making available to UK Galaxy S5s is based on the first Android 5.0 release, and not on the newer builds that have been released since then.

Samsung has said that it will also bring Lollipop to its Galaxy S4, Note 4 and Note 3, and it is believed that the firmware for these other devices will be based on the newer Android 5.0.2 build. The Galaxy S5 is rumored to receive a further update to 5.0.2 "in a month or two".

Another recent report claimed that Samsung's Android 5.0 update will soon make its way to devices in the US, and that retail store staff there have been advised of the need to update in-store devices to Lollipop in anticipation of the public rollout.
