Samsung joins Apple in announcing gold colored Galaxy S4

Gold is apparently the new black, at least in terms of smartphone colors. It certainly has worked for Apple, which generated tons of press when rumors began in August that it would offer the iPhone 5s in a gold color. Apple later confirmed those reports when it officially announced the phone earlier this month and it appears that the gold version has seen the most demand among the three 5s models since it went on sale last week.

Now it appears that Samsung wants to join the gold trend. In a post on the Samsung Gulf Facebook page, it has revealed new Gold Edition versions of its Galaxy S4 smartphone:

The phones are being targeted at the Middle Eastern market, but so far there's no indication that Samsung plans to offer the Gold Edition models elsewhere. However, we suspect that if the gold version of the iPhone 5s continues to sell well, we will see more smartphone companies joining the trend. Just remember, "Gold is Best."

Oh, God. That's just embarrassing, sad and pathetic. The last time a popular company - Creative - tried to be a "me too" company and release an exact copy of the iPod, they fell into obscurity. I've been trying to decide between Xperia Z Ultra and the Note 3 and Samsung just made the decision for me - Z Ultra it is.

P.S. And who the hell told them gold was "elegant"?!

Folk mocking Samsung, accusations of copying Apple's latest mobile, ignoring reality that the Apple's handset colours and live motion camera feature are themselves copies.

Um. Nah.

Apples the first to release a gold handset right? I mean Samsung hasn't done so in the past .. oh wait, yes they have.

It makes sense to release a product that caters to the wants of a particular region.

Theres hardly MASSIVE demand for the gold coloured iphone when they only gave 10 to each shop ffs... gold what a crap colour for a phone. if it aint real then you may as well just go and put a tracksuit on wear a cap lop sided, get some gold chains and some gold rings from the pound shop and talk like dis, is you dissing me bruv... cus your a f'ing chav!!!

And when they actually try, colors like this come out. Their doo-doo brown tablets baffle me just the same... I don't even man. Why?!!

Aguero, Aguero, goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold, gooooooooooooooooooold, Na na na na, na, na na na, yeh, yeaah, Kun Aguero!!!!

Thanks for bringing back the memory bud. If you haven`t got a clue what i`m talking about you don`t like/watch football/soccer

STOP FOLLOWING EVERY STUPID TREND.

It's not even a trend... it's just Apple, which makes Ssmsungs move even more stupid.

Wow I am not liking neowin lately as too many trolls are coming into the forum and commenting. What's up with that?

It's just a colour. And shall we forget that a MAJOR industry exists around the customisation of phones then? People are buying gold iPhones, this shows there is a desire.

What is stupid is to write this off assuming you know more than Samsung and Apple's R&D dept!

I'll just rearange your words a bit.
All companies 'desire' is profit/money.This is not a desire to the casual user, it's what they R&D dept want you to think or make you believe... so they can profit even more...!!!
I will say it to you again, you make it sound more than the lesser it is.
"Worshipping" companies like this, is what makes them have this power and influence over their users and 'impose' their beliefs and 'trends' as important/lifeworthy/not-living-without-them/desires.

There are no commercials yet for a gold Galaxy. It's simply that there is a market for a gold phone and Samsung wants to cash in on it. Some can call it copying Apple but it's just a sound business decision. EVERY company in the world is like that.
