Samsung Pay Australia launch scheduled for next week

Samsung is yet to launch its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, in many countries and there doesn't seem to be a fixed timeline for the expansion. The latest country to get the service could be Australia, as the company has scheduled an event for next week to announce its rollout.

According to Gizmodo Australia, Samsung has begun sending out invites for the Samsung Pay event, that will be held on the 15th of June. The event is expected to feature presentations and will allow journalists to get some hands-on time with the service.

Currently, we do not know about Samsung's local partners in the country for the payment service. However, American Express' Australian wing has already listed the service as "Coming Soon" on its website.

Samsung Pay's chief competitor, Apple Pay, has been available in Australia since late last year and it recently managed to get the local ANZ Bank on board as a partner. It remains to be seen who Samsung has teamed up with. The company already provides the 'Tap 'N Pay' solution for WestPac and Commonwealth Bank in the country.

The latest Samsung flagships will most certainly support Samsung Pay, however, not all older devices may be compatible with the service initially as observed in other markets.
