Screenshots of Steam for Mac emerge [Updated]

While Steam for Mac is currently under private testing, it hasn’t stopped a few from grabbing some screenshots of the new content distribution service. MacStories has the full scoop of how Mac users will install the software, create a new account, and browse the store.

The new Steam UI update is set for next Monday, April 26, though it is not yet clear if OS X users will receive the new software as well. Valve’s entire library of games, including its Half Life, Left 4 Dead, and Portal series, will be made available upon release.

cool! so macs will be able to play Quake3 and a few others now?

Yeah, it's even natively available for Linux for many years now. Time to update your database?

quake 3 ? few others ? your expectations are low ..

Very low apparently. Valve has already come out and said all the Source-based games would be available for Macs since they have already been developed in-house.

Hate to break it to you but Quake 3 has been out on Mac's a few months after it was released for PC's.

Well thats only a "few" titles.

Whether we see the other developers ones ported I guess is up to them too...I wouldn't just assume we see every source based title ported immediately...other publishers may not want to bother with it. Not that too many other devs have licensed Source anyway.

Usually I'd complain about how un-native it looks on OS X, but you know what... Steam working on a Mac is huge, as is Valve developing games for Mac. The change this will cause in the OS X market will be unbelievable.

It's already been leaked on a well known pirate ship but you need an authorised beta account to be able to actually use it.

Amazing news. Stem looks betters on mac than PC.

You're kidding right? the only difference is the mac buttons instead of windows X _ and -.... Let me help open your eyes a little. If you have a PC , just opt in for the steam beta client (which is what is shown above) and you will get the same look.

Try the 2010 UI beta, these two interfaces look almost identical (except for menu bar and caption buttons). (edit: too late)
