Singapore stock site accidentally links to Web porn

A link on the Singapore stock exchange's Web site that led to a pornographic site instead of the intended plastics company site has been fixed, the exchange said Thursday.

Until Wednesday, investors interested in Avaplas, a Singapore-based company specializing in plastic injection moldings, were mistakenly directed to "China Girl Wild World Web."

The plastic company's Web address is avaplas.com.sg, but visitors to the exchange's Web site were being sent to avaplas.com, said Raymond Chow, a spokesman for the Singapore Exchange.

Until Thursday, avaplas.com directed surfers to a pornographic site splashed with pictures of nude Asian women.

The Singapore Exchange fixed the problem on its Web site immediately after an employee reported it, said Chow.

Chan Kok Hock, the financial head of Avaplas, said that the mistaken link may have been on the Singapore Exchange Web site since March.

The Web address mix-up arose when "cyber-squatters" registered the domain, www.avaplas.com, and tried to sell it to Avaplas for $5,000 in April.

Avaplas refused to buy the domain, and the cyber-squatter then turned the domain into a conduit to the sex site.

Late Thursday, the avaplas.com site was no longer directing viewers to the pornographic site, but instead to the Singapore Exchange Web site.
