Skype for Windows Phone pulled for Nokia Lumia 610

In April, Nokia proudly announced that its low end Windows Phone device, the Lumia 610, would be able to run the Windows Phone version of Skype. Nokia claimed it was able to get Skype to work despite the fact that the first public version of the Windows Phone port is not supposed to work on devices with 256 MB of memory, such as the Lumia 610.

Well, it looks like Nokia's claims were in fact a bit premature. WMPOweruser.com reports that the company is now no longer allowing owners of the Lumia 610 to download the 1.1 version of Skype from the Windows Phone Marketplace. The statement, which was first posted by Welovewp.hk, says:

Nokia values the user experience provided by its products and services. Therefore, although the Skype Windows Phone version is workable on Nokia Lumia 610, after in-depth testing, we found that the user experience is not up to par with Nokia and Skype’s expectation and decided not recommending users using Skype on Nokia Lumia 610. In the future, users of Nokia Lumia 610 would no longer be able to download Skype Windows Phone version from Window Phone Marketplace. However, Skype Windows Phone version would still be available for other users.

So far, Skype has yet to release an updated version of the Windows Phone app since the 1.1 version was launched on April 25.
