Thank you creamhackered for the heads up. Now.. seems like TGTSoft were up to something when they released a Uxtheme patcher which woud allow you to use un-signed theme on your WindowsXP system. What happen? If they do this no one will buy StyleXP (yes dude, it's not free..). Interesting...

Please note: This version supports build versions 2600, 3541, 3590.

Download: Ux Theme Util

Patcher for UXTHEME.DLL.

WARNING: User assumes all responsibility for running the patch program and patching the uxtheme.dll file. User agress to hold harmless TGT Soft LLC. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not patch the file.

To patch UXTHEME.DLL you must follow these directions. If it does not work, please do not email us. We tried.

First, you must have administrator privileges.
Second, you must understand how to rename and copy files.
Third, you must understand where your system directory is and how to navigate there (although the patcher will tell you where it is).

If you update your Windows(r) XP operating system, the patch may become invalid.

Ready? Here are the instructions.

1) Run the uxthemepatcher.exe. This program will produce a "uxtheme.pat" file in your system32 directory. If this program fails, DO NOT CONTINUE.

2) After you have successfully run uxthemepatcher.exe, a message box will tell you where the uxtheme.pat file is. If your system directory is c:windowssystem32 -- the uxtheme.pat file will be there. If it is c:winntsystem32 -- the uxtheme.pat file will be there. And so on. Make a mental note of where the .pat file is.

3) Assuming your system directory is c:windowssystem32 go into the directory c:windowssystem32dllcache. This directory may be hidden. If it is, you need to unhide it to see it, or use the command prompt.

4) Rename the uxtheme.dll file in dllcache to uxtheme.bak (or some other name).

5) Rename any uxtheme.dl_ or uxtheme.dll that might be found in other locations on your system such as c:i386 or the place where you installed Windows(r) XP from.

6) Make sure you have NO CDs in your system (especially the Windows(r) XP install CD!).

7) Assuming your system directory is c:windowssystem32 go into the directory c:windowssystem32. Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.bak or some other name. Copy uxtheme.pat to uxtheme.dll.

8) You might get a warning from Windows System File Protection. You need to answer the two questions properly, and on your own volition to ensure that the uxtheme.dll file is not replaced with the original.

9) If all goes well, the uxtheme.dll will be the same DATE and TIME as the uxtheme.pat. If this is the case, REBOOT. Do not logoff, you need a full reboot.

Hope this works. If it does not, you can always try the Style XP trial for 30 days.

I really think the best solution is to use an old version of StyleXP (example : beta3). There is no registration and you have all the functions you need to make the unsigned styles work... Contact me if you wand some information. jeanfrancois_weibel@yahoo.NOSPAM.fr

Why can't they make an installer??? They did it for stylesxp so they obviously can... but I think they want people the stick to stylesxp.

After finding out that Styles XP would become a shareware product, I searched around for Beta 3, which does the same as the above, with no hassle.

Most of you people just don't get it. Basicly paying for StylesXP, you're just paying for the themes that they've made. Them charging for just hackin the dll file would be ridiculous, and I guess theyve realized that and give you a choice now to just put in a hacked dll yourself which is the best way. Why would someone want an extra program running when its not needed. I've already tried out the hacked dll awhile ago, but out of the hundreds and hundreds of themes I've looked at, I've downloaded about 10 which looked like they might be cool, but they sucked, so now I'm back to the original dll, and don't bother even lookin anymore.

Actually this was about from them before stylexp. I have been using it the whole time. They just gave you the dll file and you just copied it over in safemode.

It's not always work in safe mode especially when you install StyleXP the last one. I installed it and my friend sent me the hacked dll, then, I uninstall StyleXP and I go in safe mode, I couldn't delete the file because it was always in use. Even if you go in safe mode or not, it doesn't make any difference, all you have to do is run -> cmd sfc /purgecache go into c:windowssystem32 rename uxtheme.dll to anything else window will ask for windows install cd, press cancel then copy the hacked own into here and reboot. In safe mode, the normal procedure as copy paste don't always work because of the cache. Expecially if you already installed StyleXP before because Uxtheme.dll goes into cache
