Thanks crackhead for this in BPN. Over one year ago Opera's engineers started working on two separate development branches. One of them later became the successful Opera 6, released in December 2001. The latter was a longer project: optimizing Opera's core with the latest and best in standards support and features, while not compromising speed.

Project Presto
This project was dubbed Presto, a term chosen not by accident. In music "presto" denotes rapid speed or "as if by magic," just the way Opera renders Web pages. When you play "presto" you also play it lightly, reflecting on our famously small browser size.

Now Opera's enhanced engine is getting close to release, and you will all soon be able to try out Presto in the new Opera 7 version to be released soon. On this page we will collect some links for you regarding Presto and Opera 7 as we move closer to release.

Cool...I can't live on web without my Opera browser. Internet Explorer? Only used on pages that Opera doesn't support.

While Opera 6.05 uses only 9MB of RAM to run, Opera 7 uses 14MB of RAM, which is still better than the 27MB of RAM that iexplorer uses.

Yea cuz its important to say who posted it first, like it really matters jesus. Why does everyone complain when they don't get credit for posting something first, is Neobond gonna give you a cookie or something?

It seems to me after using both that Phoenix is a tad faster.

Anybody have any trouble with Windows being able to get certain bank pages where you have to load your password? Otherwise love this, it is great.

Has some funny issues with putting spaces between words at times, and doesn't always respond to right-clicks or double-clicks, but I am quite happy with it so far. Oh, and if you hold down the shift key, it won't backspace. Poo. I know it's just a beta, but those are the things that are getting to me most and I need to rant somewhere. Wow, I'm actually excited about *two* upcoming browsers. Wonder what I'll do if I end up loving both Opera and Phoenix equally. A couple of things though -- Of COURSE it takes up a whole lot more memory. Alpha blending does that. A lot. (Actually, methinks they really need an option to have a less spiffy UI for those with less powerful machines.) And Phoenix has been kicking around for a bit longer than this, so of course it will be more developed.

My bookmark management is really nasty in this so far. I love the borwser but considering it is a beta, i think iwill wait a while. I love how in Internet Explorer I can manage my bookmarks with the drop down list.
