Nullsoft WinAmp is a fast, flexible, high-fidelity music player for Windows
Mwoahaha, they're talking about the 2.8x version, right?..... I don't need a media-player that eats up 30megs of memory and takes 20 seconds to load (not counting some complex skins).. They should rename WA3 to something else to keep their good name on WinAmp. WA3 wrecks what WA2 built up for Nullsoft.. fools...

for people with old computers WinAMP 2 is better since it uses much less resources and i was using it because i had one now with this new computer i say WinAMP 3 all the way! its great program, maybe loads up little slower, and when having enogh ram you dont really care how much ram it uses... WinAMP is great program, especially when you have new computer

And what's an old machine? a 1GHz? cause that's what I have.. I want WinAmp to play music, not to give me some nice eyecandy I don't see while using other applications...

Winamp 3 rocks! If you say that WA3 uses to much resources and is slow for you... TIME TO UPGRADE PPL!

WA3 has a lot of bugs(?).. For example, why not showing the time and therefor the seek-bar for random mp3s, If the encoding is exactly the same as others that wa3 shows the time? :disappoin

I'm using a P3 733 with 512MB RAM and Wa3 is a HUGE resource hog. It's full of bugs and also full of useless features that you can't disable. Wa2 all the way!

I used to like Winamp3, but they've screwed it up big time I have a pretty cutting edge pc, and the thing takes around 30-40 megs of ram. And eats up sometimes around 40-80% of my CPU power. Thats not right. Im not saying its trash. It has GREAT! potential. But they need to fix the memory bugs. And other bugs in it. Im still using the 2.xx winamp since it loads in no time. Barely takes any CPU or Mem to run. And it works with my keyboards play buttons. YES! Im lazy --EDIT! I retract that statement. Seems they've fixed the bugs I've been expierencing. GREAT JOB! Im happy now

I love winamp 3. It doesn't take that much longer to start up and the skins are amazing and feature packed. There's some things missing but I'm going for looks right now.

It eats 6mb here as well, but it uses 25% of CPU when playing MP3 and some skin is applied.SH*T!

It uses 30 MB memory for me too, but sometimes it goes up to ~43 MB. Processor usage, however, is quite low: 0-1% (of 2 GHz). With every new realese they do, it keeps crashing more often and often, so I'm still using the first one. But why have they removed features from 2.x? A new version usually include new featers, not less. Why no total time in playlist? And the ability to fade the song out (holding shift down and stopping it)?
#16 pctuk on 18 Dec 2002 - 17:31
With me it idles around 8-10mb inc skin and when playing it's 17mb. Minimized it's 3mb and minimized and playing it's 4mb. When I brought it back from the taskbar it jumped up to only 8mb playing. Stopped and started a song and gained another 4mb. I'm no great programmer but could this program be open to improvements in the way it handles memory?

Winamp3 did'nt run that well on my old PC (PIII 700, 256Mb) but it runs pretty well on my current machine. Using about 9Mb of RAM and 0-1% of the CPU (Athlon XP 2100+). Its true Winamp3 does seem very 'bloated' when compared to 2.xx. Stick with it though, you'll learn to love it...eventually

After reading the above guy's response...thought I'd give v3 another chance...I just upgraded as well...and it works great now on my previous p3 750 with 640 megs it was slow...yes..and the cddb thing never worked after the first song you played but they've fixed it...been running this new one the past few hours and it's smooth... I hated it before...now I like winamp3... still keep the old one installed too
