Saw this over @ ntfs.org. So which downloads kept you busy in 2002, aside from the MB's worth of updates we pull in regulary for our Windows based PC's C|Net has compiled a list of Top 10 Best / Downloads for 2002, Enjoy!

We try out a lot of software in the Download.com offices. Particularly interesting titles spread like wildfire from computer to computer, as each staff member installs them. But we're pretty jaded, so it takes impressive features or novelty for an application to stay installed for more than a day. For the best of 2002, 10 staff members stepped forward to offer up their favorite software titles.
    Rank / Title / Downloads
  1. ICQ (now ICQ Pro) 221,456,779
  2. KaZaA Media Desktop 158,672,582
  3. Morpheus 106,610,596
  4. WinZip 91,636,490

Although the exploit code was written for the Putty client, crackers regularly take such files and modify them to attack other vulnerable implementations. Security researchers often write exploits to test their own systems for vulnerabilities and then release the code publicly as a proof-of-concept. This is typically done after a patch is made available, as was the case with the SSH vulnerabilities

#3 Xahid on 31 Dec 2002 - 18:18

#4 Pupik2k on 31 Dec 2002 - 18:18
Isn't the Audiogalaxy Satellite closed year ago ?
(1 reply) #5 DigitalResource on 31 Dec 2002 - 18:19
pretty impressive. If Audiogalaxy would still excist it would be number 1 I guess!
#5.1 Apollo on 31 Dec 2002 - 19:00

ICQ, haven't used that chat program for years, buggy and bloated... Windows Messenger does what I need. KaZaA, the future of file sharing, IF people would now put up better quality songs, just think how many have downloaded the "lite" version to take away the 128kb restriction! Or better still, KaZaA (from Sharmen) gets released with the block taken away! Are people still using Morpheus? I would have thought that KaZaA would have wiped them off the face of the earth! WinZip, I can understand, although WinRar is not bad as well. And that horroble webshots... Gawd, what an awful piece of software! iMesh, should Apple not sue them for using the dreaded "i" in their title Yahoo Messenger, never used it... Don't intend to ever use it! Download Accelerator Plus, this I must try and see for myself what it's like compared to FlashGet. Good old trusty Zonealarm, simply the best. Audiogalaxy Satellite, eh? this is a complete surprise to me. Missing ommissions... Quicktime Trillian Mozilla Opera It's just a pity that now CNet now are charging for authors to list their programs on download.com... Quick question... These download figures, are they for individual downloads or do they include the multiple times an application has been downloaded with the multiple updates that each ones has, look at ICQ and KaZaA, every time you breath there is a new version with numerous bug fixes! I know it would be a hard thing to figure out to get some really truthful download figures rather than upgrade downloads, but maybe not with the help of cookies and some management software on their download end.

Never heard of iMesh :/ Also, if Audiogalaxy wasn't working, why is it the 10th biggest download of 2002?
#7.1 Neobond on 31 Dec 2002 - 19:32
because it was downloaded 31,584,092 times from January to the time it went down.

"Particularly interesting titles spread like wildfire from computer to computer, as each staff member installs them." That is the #1 corniest sentence I've read all year. I'm willing to bet the others will come from Zdnet. Who can take them seriously when they write "interesting titiles spread like wildfire" when they try to take themselves as serious tech journalists. I think 80% of the freeware apps I've downloaded this year are great and I've used them. They didn't make the list. I think most everyone who goes on this site already hear of these apps, King Mustard being at least one exception . If you want better apps, go to the Software sections in the Forum and look up the sticky on great software.

#12.1 iczman on 01 Jan 2003 - 04:06
UT2k3 was released too late in the year, plus not everyone's a gamer
#13 Leonardo_3 on 31 Dec 2002 - 23:47
From this list I admit to have downloaded Audiogalaxy satelite and zonealarm. Would expect "windows 2000 SP2 or SP3" and bsplayer (!) to be in the list though.
#14 pocket cd-r on 01 Jan 2003 - 00:09

#21.1 Daybreak on 01 Jan 2003 - 17:18
The best p2p for music without a doubt... There's nothing which has managed to replace it so far, sadly.
#21.2 CatnipOligarthy on 01 Jan 2003 - 17:35
audiogalaxy was the greatest...impressive that it still made the list since it was gone half the year...
#22 mcloum on 01 Jan 2003 - 20:32
