Opera has been hailed as the fastest browser on earth by users and press worldwide. Opera uses less memory and less space on your hard drive than competing browser applications, making you more productive on the Web.

Standard Edition is also available via a volume license; the Student and Teacher Edition is available through a special academic license that allows up to three people in a qualified household (one with at least one student or teacher) to install the product. That license is good for the lifetime of the product, even when bought by a student who then graduates.

At the other end of the scale is Office 2003 Basic Edition, the most stripped-down version of the suite. It is replacing Office XP Small Business Edition as the version that will be available only with the purchase of a new PC.

Microsoft has not yet announced pricing plans for the six different Office 2003 bundles or any of the stand-alone Office applications.

A Microsoft representative said the decision not to offer OneNote in any of the Office bundles is based on feedback from an extensive pool of beta testers. OneNote was designed primarily for individuals who take extensive notes and want to repurpose them.

Therefore I will use Opera!!!

Unless you refuse to update to newer service packs for your Windows OS, you can say goodbye to MS java.

Err.. I wouldn't say Avant is a mix of Opera and IE, since it is based solely on IE. So you get the same security flaws, etc that you get with IE.. whoo..

[neoquote=#1.6 by Jason]Why would i want SUN Java ROFLMFAO [/neoquote] Maybe because it's the real Java and not some old ass propietary version that MS ships. But then again, if you're satisfied with crap, then you might as well stick with it.

can't wait for Opera 7.1 final. It looks like it has some really cool new features!
Opera 7.1 for Windows has the following changelog: M2, Opera's new e-mail and news client * Automatically mark messages as read after X seconds if they are in a view where read messages can be shown. View->Mark as read to turn on. * M2 remembers sorting of e-mail messages between sessions * When using mark all as read on a folder, m2 will now only mark read messages that are actually visible in the access point (not hidden newsgroup messages for instance). * Let space bar used in mail be page down and when at bottom, mark as read and go to next unread, and if no more unread, go to next normal read message * Resize column headers * Improved status indication in M2 * Keyboard navigation in M2: F7 focuses Hotlist panel, F8 mail headers, F9 * Inherit filter from parent folder added to m2 filters. More exactly: Limits filtering to messages contained in parent. * IMAA-support (should solve problems with unicode in incoming from addresses User interface features * Cookie Manager implemented * Wand Manager implemented * Notes panel: Select some text on a page, press Ctrl+Shift+C (copy to note). The lower HotList pane is a text field where you can edit the selected note real-time, no saving needed. Text on a webpage copied directly to a note (Copy to note) becomes a special web note with a different icon and double clicking the note opens that web page url (but does not scroll down) and auto selects the text * Added Page Info panel in HotList * FastForward can now be used as a "slide show" on galleries, like http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/middle_east_and_asia/ * Improved fast forward, everything is now defined in fastforward.ini * When spacing to bottom of page, invoke fast forward * Added .shtml as extension for html documents in addition to .htm, .html, since shtml is commonly used by web servers * It is now possible to change view style both in hotlist and in bookmark manager * Support for an alternative Ctrl+TAB mode * Export Bookmarks file as html * Enhanced tooltips for bookmarks and Page bar tabs * Added 'Rewind' button to jump back quickly * Support for downloading setup files for menus and keyboard shortcuts. _ Accessibility Features _ * Pressing down arrow in a single line edit field (in forms for example) will now open a dropdown menu with personal info and all notes. Similiarly, pressing down in To,CC,BCC opens the same kind of menu as pressing the To,cc,bcc buttons. More features _ * :hover and :active now only apply to links (as in, hover and/or active without any other selector) * The Transfer panel now contains two columns, where the last toggles between filesize and progress * Changes in Transfer panel * Preferences redone/reorganized/improved * Added options for location of progress bar * First time setup dialog * Various improvements to the Wand (save for page or entire server) * Improved bookmark handling, including split view and flat/single folder view * Manage contacts dialog * Improved bookmark import * The new setup manager with options on first run _ Miscellaneous _ * Status bar text when hovering bookmarks and contacts * Status bar text for items in the personal toolbar * Support for actions in bookmark folders * Fixed a hang on pages that used % height on replaced content in tables * Plugins: avoid JS url loading when JS is switched off. * Made it possible to tab to the Hotlist selector * Fix for @media handheld (which can be used to override SSR) ==================================================
#4 nFHQ|MaTrIx on 03 Apr 2003 - 17:37
gr8 release, im having a problem with the close window mouse gesture not working, all other mouse gestures seem to be working, any1 else with this issue?
#5 shen on 03 Apr 2003 - 17:58
phoenix is slower and uses more resources. no thanks, for now. opera is my main browser (using 7.03) and i love it - the only reason i haven't installed IE is because of windowsupdate.com. definitely my favorite piece of software, even moreso than nero, winrar or alcohol 120%. it's just that daaaaaayum good. i'm not eager to mess with current setup just to test this beta, but i'll definitely be watching for the final 7.1
#6 vetBroChaos on 03 Apr 2003 - 18:04
what are they changing? is there a log somewhere? new features, or just bug squashing? last i checked, no one was asking for opinions on avantbrowser or phoenix, take the spam somewhere else. opera whips both of them in terms of speed anyways.

[neoquote=#9.0 by DsnBehind]Has this version been completely rewriten, also? I love marketing.[/neoquote] Version 7 has a completely new rendering engine. Everything else has been pretty much rewritten as well. Best browser ever!

Opera is a great browser, though I still have to revert back to IE for some pages....just poorly coded I guess.. The only other gripe I have is with that awful default skin, just as well you can change it...
#11 Galley_SimRacer on 04 Apr 2003 - 17:00
The new info panel displays all the pertinent info for the current page, such as URL, size, number of inline elements (images, etc.), and the size of the elements, and more. The notes panel is too cool! It's a place for you to create, store and edit notes!
