- Do people still use AOL or just the Noobs? AOL is for people who know ZERO about computers or the Internet.

- Add me to that list of n00bs. Do people seriously think they are contributing to the site by commenting like this all the time? Nobody cares you think it sucks, what's more interesting is if this new software is any good.

You see most people think they are original/thinking - but when it comes down to it they are spewing ignorant neural connections created and enforced by someone else..

- I would have to agree that blasting anything to hear (or see) your own voice is an exercise in stupidity and imaturity mostly. Nothing productive to say? Say nothing. Believe me ther are plenty of AOL users out there who know more about computers than you ever will.Like all things in life ther is always someone who knows more. Lots of folks with kids keep AOL for reasons that are obvious.Myself included. KennJ

- everyone says AOL and Microsoft sucks because other people say it. give me a reason why aol and microsoft suck, and then lets watch you start your own company from the ground up and start making billions of dollars. not likely.

-
http://www.democratandchronicle.com/entertainment/arts/weird/ent_1038.shtml
First off, under your ideas, regardless of the quality of the product, if it sells alot it must be good. That is truly incorrect. Second, AOL sucks because its software is bloated, takes up too much memory, steals system resources, requires you to install RealPlayer, even if you dont want it, has poor installation, i.e. when you upgrade it does not upgrade the prior version, rather installs to a new folder so that disk space is wasted . . . the only other products that do this are virus'. As for MS . . . personally I think they are alright. I think Word sucks, but XP is not that bad. The ones that complain about MS have specialized needs for computing that MS cant handle, but are likely required to use MS products. so boo-jah

It isn't bloated. It doesn't take up very much memory nor does it steal system resources. Sure, it requires you to install RealPlayer. But, you know. Add/Remove Programs is there for a reason. And there are, scarily enough, some people that use RealPlayer in the world. Not to mention the fact that a lot of AOL's streaming video and audio is in the Real format. When you upgrade it, you can put it into the old directory if you want, it's just that by default it's a new directory. I haven't used a new AOL directory since AOL 7. "boo-jah".

- I think he meant MSN isn't any better; and that would be the truth.
Anyway, I too am sick of everyone posting "AOL Sucks" etc. whenever AOL news is posted. LAY OFF IT PEOPLE, no one cares anymore.

- So what if you think it sucks. If you're not using it then fine, that's your choice. Might we also remind you that AOL is also behing Winamp, ICQ, Warner Brothers, HBO, etc...

We would like to thank you for your help in assisting us with the Beta test of AOL 8.0. We are pleased to announce that the GM candidate version of AOL 8.0 Beta is now available for download at AOL Keyword: Beta 8! Please go to this keyword and click Download to test 4129.650b today!
This GM candidate build is a version of the AOL 8.0 Beta software which is considered of a high enough quality to be released to members. We need all testers to upgrade to the 4129.650b build in order to ensure that we get any final bugs in the software reported as soon as possible. Keep those bug reports coming - the response we've had so far has been excellent.
Sunset:
During Beta tests we periodically ‘sunset’ or block access to older Beta versions of the software in order to encourage testers to upgrade to the latest revision available from AOL Keyword: Beta 8. It is imperative that all testers are testing on the latest release of the software. This ensures that the bugs reported are current bugs, and not bugs that have been fixed in a later release. We would ask all testers to upgrade to the latest builds as they become available. As we are approaching the end of the AOL 8.0 Beta test, we will aggressively sunset the old Beta releases of the software. You will know if you are using a version due to be sunset if you receive a pop up message encouraging you to upgrade your software at sign on. To avoid losing access to AOL 8.0, we would advise you to upgrade your software everytime a new build is released.
Report Spam:
The Report Spam feature in AOL 8.0 is about to change. For messages reported as spam with the Report Spam button, AOL will no longer automatically add the sender to the Mail Controls block list. The Report Spam behaviour for a single message will become a one-click operation. When you click Report Spam, the message will disappear from the email list into Recently Deleted Email, and the message will be reported to the Conditions of Service Team as Spam. The sender's address will not be automatically added to the Mail Controls block list (and therefore a confirmation dialog will not appear). This change has not been implemented yet but we expect it will happen this week.
Beta Support:
This is a Beta product. If you encounter any problems caused directly or indirectly as a result of testing this Beta product for which you require technical assistance, please do not contact the standard AOL Support Helpline, as the AOL Beta Team are here to assist you with any queries, technical or otherwise, which you may have. The AOL Beta Team may be contacted by email at UKBetaGen@aol.com, or through the Email the Beta Team section of the online area (AOL Keyword: Beta 8).
Remember, a Beta support helpline is available for those testers who are having difficulty with the AOL 8.0 Beta software. The Beta support helpline operates between 7PM - 9PM, Monday to Friday and the number is 0800 376 4409.
The Beta team also host Beta Chat for any Beta related queries from 5 – 6 PM every Thursday.
Thanks once again for all your invaluable help throughout this Beta test. We greatly appreciate all the comments, feedback and suggestions we have received. We ask for one more concerted effort to test this new GM candidate build. Please download the new build and help us release the best version of AOL yet!
Kind Regards
The UK Beta Team
